This is a 2-year contract position as a Lecturer, Digital Journalism in the School of Film & Media Studies.
[What you will be working on]
Teaching and Development
Develop and deliver curriculum for digital journalism and data storytelling across diploma and adult learning courses
Guide students in data analysis, visualisation, and narrative techniques
Teach modern digital journalism tools, platforms, and methodologies
Lead practical training in multimedia storytelling and digital content creation
Supervise student journalism projects and digital publications
Coordinate with industry partners for real-world reporting opportunities
Develop industry-relevant assessments and contribute to curriculum development
Mentor students in investigative journalism and fact-checking methodologies
Teach both full-time students and working professionals (flexible hours when required)
Support in student development and pastoral care
Academic Admin and committee work which supports the activities in a functional committee assigned by the School, such as timetabling, academic quality, student development, facilities management, overseas programme etc.
Industry Integration
Maintain strong connections with industry partners across digital media sectors
Organise industry visits and guest speaker sessions
Facilitate industry projects and collaborations
Keep curriculum updated with emerging trends and technologies
[What we are looking for]
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in digital journalism and data-driven storytelling
Skills, Knowledge and Attributes
Strong technical proficiency in:
+ Data analysis and visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
+ Content Management Systems
+ Digital publishing platforms
+ Social media analytics
+ SEO and digital metrics Demonstrated experience in:
+ Data journalism projects
+ Interactive storytelling
+ Multimedia content creation
+ Digital newsroom operations Strong understanding of media ethics and journalism standards
Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis
Excellent writing and editing skills across multiple platforms
Knowledge of media law and current affairs
Strong analytical and research capabilities
Proficiency in digital tools for journalism and fact-checking
Experience with audience engagement strategies
Active industry connections and networks
