LECTURER (MA ART THERAPY)
The School of Creative Industries is seeking to appoint a full-time lecturer for the MA Art Therapy programme-the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. This programme aims to develop qualified art therapists who are both culturally responsive and forward-thinking in today's rapidly evolving world. This internationally approved programme, through the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA), further prepares graduates for professional credentials through that association. The programme has significant industry relationships and links such as The Red Pencil Humanitarian Mission Singapore and the Art Therapists' Association Singapore.
The MA Art Therapy programme prepares art therapists-in-training to support individuals through responsive, culturally-informed and context-specific art-based therapeutic approaches, further guided by standards, best practices and ethics. With access to Singapore's world-class medical and mental health ecosystem, the programme emphasises experiential learning through art-making, critical reflection, group work and research grounded in clinical practice through a substantial clinical placement component that is structured and supervised.
We are seeking a passionate, experienced and credentialed art therapist-academic with expertise in teaching core courses in art therapy across multiple cohorts. Reporting to the Programme Leader, you will primarily teach the MA Art Therapy programme-key responsibilities include academic preparation, teaching and delivering the programme to meet students' learning outcomes. Your role also involves working collaboratively with colleagues to support the School's strategic goals.
You will also coordinate academic learning activities, liaise with part-time staff, conduct assessments, mentor students and participate in student recruitment.
You should preferably have expertise across several of the following areas: art therapy theory, art and art-making through a range of media and materials, clinical practice, psychological theory and frameworks, and clinical supervision. You should also have experience with culturally informed art therapy practice and research, trauma-informed art therapy practices, collaborative community art-based initiatives and projects, art-based supervision and research.
You will demonstrate a deep commitment to student learning and development, a strong foundation in both professional practice and academic teaching in the field of art therapy, and an evidenced awareness of current and emerging critical discourses in areas important to art therapy at national and international levels. The successful candidate is also expected to engage in research and/or professional practice that contributes to the development of the discipline and enhances student learning.
