  • Commercial Legal: Work with Chief Counsel to document and advise on various aspects of the legal affairs affecting the businesses in this cluster, and align with global stakeholders where required to adopt company policies and best practices, including:
  • Contracts: Draft, review and negotiate various commercial agreements, including third party vendor services agreements (eg. ecommerce, marketing, IT, logistics etc.), franchise agreements, key wholesale account agreements and provide associated strategic advice to internal stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Compliance: Keeping abreast of legal developments and assist with compliance training and educating internal/external clients on, among others, Competition Laws, Marketing & Consumer Laws and our company\xe2\x80\x99s global policies (i.e. Worldwide Code of Business Conduct, Anti-Bribery & Corruption Policy, Contracts Policy, etc.).
  • Risk Management: Work closely with business teams and internal/external counsels to address risks, disputes, claims, litigations and liability profile of the company.
  • Contracts Management: Support the rollout of a central contracts database system. Maintain and update database of contracts and legal precedent portfolio and ensuring accessibility.
  • Legal Projects/Research: Manage legal projects relating to implementation of business strategies and growth in EAP and work with outside counsel to coordinate research on local laws & regulations affecting our business.
  • External Counsel Management: coordinating external advice and external counsel engagement, including billing administrative matters.
  • Corporate Governance: Support the rollout of a central corporate database system and coordinate with local finance teams and head office teams where required on corporate secretarial matters.
  • Brand Protection: Support our Global Intellectual Property (IP) Team in the enforcement of our global brand protection efforts and strategies in EAP, including gathering evidence for IP-related disputes and legal actions; clearance of IP materials for use; and advising business customers on IP-related issues.
  • Collaborate: Coordinate and collaborate with both EAP legal team and global legal team to share, manage and create best practices, precedents and templates.
  • Key Relationships: Global Legal, EAP Legal & various business functions/teams in EAP.
About You
  • Education: Law degree (LLB) from a recognized university and licensed to practice law in an EAP jurisdiction.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of work experience in a top tier law firm and/or in-house in a commercial legal role.
Functional Competencies:
  • Legal drafting and negotiation: Solid understanding of terms and forms of contracts, strong drafting skills and experience in contract negotiation; able to think critically about the organization\xe2\x80\x99s business objectives during contract drafting; able to assist in follow up negotiations on contract and commercial issues.
  • Business & Analytical Skill: Good understanding of key drivers and essential business concepts related to individual tasks and projects; able to practically apply business knowledge and concepts both within the legal department and when working with business partners.
  • Risk Awareness: Able to identify, analyze and escalate (or communicate, as appropriate) legal and business risks faced by the company.
  • Critical Thinking: Able to arrive at logical conclusions and solutions to appropriately solve problems or create new solutions.
  • Project Management: Able to develop and executes project plans, independently monitor and ensure timely delivery of project deliverables and work cross-functionally to resolve issues.
  • Communication Skills: Able to simplify and communicate legal issues clearly and effectively; delivers clear, consistent and good quality written work product.
  • Working style: Team player with also the ability to work independently with limited supervision in an exciting and constantly evolving environment.
  • Outside Counsel Management: Interacts frequently with outside counsels; actively participates in relationship management and managing external deadlines to provide quality and timely results
  • Technology: Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products, including Office, Word, Excel and Power Point; adept at using (or learning) existing (or new) technologies and incorporating them into workflow.

Good to have:
  • Have worked in a multi-cultural environment and/or serviced multi-national external clients.
  • Prior experience in FMCG or retail, with exposure to brand protection and corporate secretarial matters
  • Possesses regional experience and fluency in any other regional language is a plus.
