Job Description


Position Summary The Legal & Risk Counsel will be responsible for (i) providing legal advice and support to IMC Group companies in the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand; (ii) assisting to implement the IMC Group Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework and providing support to IMC Group Companies on issues relating to ERM and risk management generally; and (iii) providing support on governance matters relating to the IMC Group. The Legal & Risk Counsel will report to Head, Group Risk Management (GRM), and have a dotted line to General Counsel, IMC Industrial Group.

Responsibilities

Legal

  • Providing timely, objective and practical legal advice to business units engaged in both marine and non-marine businesses, as well as to corporate functions.
  • Managing claims, disputes and litigation, and where necessary, instructing and working with external lawyers on the same.
  • Training internal staff on company practices, relevant regulatory/compliance requirements and general legal and risk management issues.
  • Assisting with corporate secretarial duties in general and as may be assigned from time to time.
Group Risk Management
  • Providing support to IMC Group companies on their Enterprise Risk Management frameworks and risk management in generally, including matters relating to ESG and wellbeing governance.
  • Keeping track of IMC Group policies, assist in drafting policies where necessary, and ensure that policies are maintained and updated from time to time as required.
  • Assist with placing and/or renewal of directors and officers indemnity policies and other related policies.

Requirements
  • Admitted as a solicitor in Singapore or other common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 4-6 years of corporate/commercial transactional and/or litigation experience gained in-house and/or in private practice.
  • Shipping law and shipping litigation experience preferred but not a prerequisite.
  • Experience in risk management and corporate governance will be a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal skills, able to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Able to learn on the job and hands-on with a high level of commitment to be a trusted legal and risk advisor to business units.
  • Adaptable to working in a fluid and changing business environment, in cross functional teams, and in different geographical regions.
