This includes physical products, logistics and technical support, as well as pricing and financing solutions.What you\'ll doThe Legal Specialist - Commodity Trading role is responsible for supporting the management of legal risks and opportunities associated with Anglo American\'s marketing business in Singapore.Performance & Delivery

  • Support the success of Anglo American providing a wide range of legal advice to Anglo American\'s marketing business.
  • Identify key legal risks and opportunities associated with the marketing business\'s activities, including day to day trading queries (physical and paper), disputes, projects, business development and origination transactions including collaborating with colleagues in other jurisdictions to manage cross-border/global matters.
  • Providing support to business unit on marketing and logistics joint ventures/distribution agreements together with marketing development and origination transactions.
  • Provide advice on marketing unit\'s strategy including access and offtakes which are critical to successful commissioning and commercialisation of new projects and optimise new/existing routes to market while identifying/managing legal risk appropriately.
  • Ensure the heads of legal are kept updated on key matters together with business strategy/pipeline of activity which may impact legal support required to the different business units.
  • Update the Group Legal reports comprehensively and accurately as-and-when material developments occur or monthly, whichever is the more frequent. Where required, participate in briefings of BU management and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the business teams to provide timely and appropriate advice in connection with commercial transactions, projects and strategy developments.
  • Manage client relationships to deliver high quality/timely advice to the Anglo American Group in relation to its marketing business legal activities and specifically the marketing business unit.
  • Report to client on a regular and consistent basis in relation to progress, costs and issues arising and obtain approval for material decisions in all matters in which the role holder is the lead lawyer.
  • Consider and manage compliance issues which are relevant to marketing contracts and the business unit as a whole and assist in embedding marketing and Group\'s compliance framework/policies in such activities.

  • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with your manager as appropriate.
  • Manage the provision of legal services by external lawyers and law firms in a cost-effective manner.

  • Contribute to group legal and marketing\'s sustainability plans.
Compliance
  • Support the compliance and risk teams to provide effective operational compliance oversight and monitoring.
QualificationsWhat we\'re looking forQualified as a solicitor in England & Wales or other relevant common law jurisdiction such as Singapore, Australia or Canada.Knowledge required:
  • Experience of international commodity trading (physical and paper) preferably gained in-house within a large multinational commodity company.
  • Would be preferable to have experience in drafting and negotiating international commodity sales contracts in bulks, precious metals and LME products (Incoterms, SCoTA, SIOTA), including shipping terms for bulks and containerised vessels.
  • Experience with the contract negotiation for the movement of bulk commodities (multi modal)
  • Knowledge of anti-trust, sustainability, and compliance issues in commodity contracts
  • In-depth understanding of identifying and mitigating risk
  • Commercial awareness and pragmatism
  • Dispute resolution
  • Experience of working for a global business with operations in diverse locations
  • Commercial understanding of consequences of legal risk and scenarios
