Job Description


What the role is:The Language Division within the National Heritage Board (NHB) provides secretariat support for four language councils and/or language campaigns, namely the Speak Good English Movement, the Promote Mandarin Council for the Speak Mandarin Campaign, the Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS) and the Tamil Language Council.The Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS) was established in 1992. Its objective is to inculcate a community of Singaporean Malays with an awareness and appreciation of Malay culture and heritage through the promotion of Malay language and literature. The MLCS' key initiatives and focus areas include Bulan Bahasa, Anugerah Persuratan and, Anugurah Guru Arif Budiman, Mastera, MABBIM and more.If you are keen to be part of the Language Division, we would love to hear from you!What you will be working on:Strategy and Partnerships

  • Develop strategy and partnerships for key initiatives helmed by the Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS). This includes preparation of positioning papers and proposals
  • Network and develop relationships across agencies, ideate and synergise opportunities with community, potential partners, and key stakeholders in the Malay language and culture sector, to further the objectives of the MLCS
Communications and Promotions
  • Conceptualise and implement the communications strategy for the MLCS, including public relations, advertising and promotion
  • Plan and execute sound digital engagement strategy for the MLCS, including content creation, maintenance and updates for the website as well as social media platforms and other digital channels
  • Develop strategic programmes to meet the objectives of the MLCS
  • Implement all festivals and events by the MLCS
  • Handle online feedback where necessary
Secretariat Duties and Stakeholder Management
  • All secretariat duties and responsibilities for the MLCS and its various committees / sub-committees, including fund-raising, budget planning, project or event management and programme / project execution
  • Administrative and secretariat support for the Language Division in all areas of strategy, partnerships and operations
What we are looking for:
  • Preferably 3 to 5 years relevant working experience in areas related to Malay Studies, Arts & Social Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or similar disciplines
  • Able to think critically and communicate clearly
  • Resourceful, able to multitask and handle all aspects of project management
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen interest in language, heritage and culture
  • Bilingual and fluency in English and Malay as the job requires written and spoken interaction with stakeholders in the Malay community
  • Able to work on weekends or as required by work exigencies
