About the role Our new Commercial Services & Digital team will streamline and guide how we invest in and harness technology for Commercial. This team will modernise and digitise our manual processes, addressing pain points for employees and focus on initiatives for improving customer experiences. We see Commercial Services as the engine room with their focus on post deal tasks such as invoicing, trade finance, shipping and laytime. Commercial Services & Digital is a unique opportunity to bring digital closer to the business, to create more synergies between teams and bring together business improvements to achieve business excellence. We’re looking for an experienced Manager Commercial Solution Architecture and Integration CoP to be accountable for overseeing all solution architecture and integration activity and solution architect resources across Commercial Digital. Enable a high level of performance and standards across product delivery that is leading in my domain.
The team does this by using modern techniques, tooling behaviours to deliver digital capability as quickly as possible. You’ll build on the culture, values and engineering principles that has made the team successful, reinforcing the speed and agility achieved thus far by taking a principled approach to design and delivery. You’ll be asked to learn new things quickly and accomplish a wide range of tasks, all focused on designing technology solutions covering transactional activity, customer engagement, market risk, and credit risk analysis. This team will manage the simplification of the commercial landscape program including the transition to new Commercial Platforms. More specifically this includes Data and Integration, Document Management and Collaboration and Automation platforms. Reporting to the Senior Manager Innovation & CoP, you will be:

• Set the vision, purpose and cadence of the Commercial Solution Architecture and Integration CoP.

• Develop and disseminate domain-specific best practices, guidelines, knowledge and lessons learned for commercial solution architect resources to draw on to deliver a high level of performance and standards across product delivery.

• Accountable for leading the program to establish the platform landscape within Commercial, then once established accountable for overseeing the ongoing maintenance, monitoring, integration and improvement of these platforms.

• Promote collaboration, innovation, sharing of information and development of domain-specific skills within CoP.

• Accountable for overseeing and supporting the solution architecture and platform integration activity across Commercial Digital, including delivery.

• Accountable for people managing Principal/Senior Advisor Commercial Solution Architects (internal and external resources) including performance management, capacity planning and coordination of resources to address demand (in collaboration with the Governance, Portfolio and Rapid Application Development (RAD) Team).

• Champion and inspire a growth mindset, and pave career progression pathways for the team.

• Lead change efforts to embed new ways of working within team.

• Responsible for partnering with other CoP Managers (with relevant disciplines in solution architecture and platform integration) across Rio Tinto.

What you will need for the role To succeed in this role, you will have:

• Around 15 years relevant experience as an architect or software engineer in a trading environment and preferably with at least 5 years experience of leading technical team (i.e. solution architect and engineers)

• Demonstrated ability to work both with senior business stakeholders including the Rio Tinto Enterprise Architect and Cyber Security organisation

• The ability to fostering a culture of product delivery and continuous improvement

• Demonstrated ability to piece together an application landscape across a complex business process, design technical solutions from scratch and usher through to deployment

• Professional experience working with risk concepts such as VaR, volatility surfaces, non-linear product valuation, potential future exposure, Monte Carlo simulation and the like

• Good understanding of a wide variety of linear and non-linear financial instruments and markets including futures, vanilla options, swaps, forwards, exotics and structured products

• Good understanding of application-level and data-level integration at both conceptual and application levels

• Good understanding of cloud native architectures and design on AWS and Azure

• Excitement about trading and financial markets and motivated to learn and explore

It would also be beneficial if you have:

• Advanced knowledge and coding abilities in Python and other lower-level languages (e.g. C++)

• Experience in data management (both SQL and no SQL)
