Job Description


What the role is:The Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) is one of the oldest tropical botanical gardens and one of only three botanic gardens in the world inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It now also hosts a Tropical Forest Ecology Research programme to coordinate research to inform forest conservation strategies and policy in Singapore and the region. The SBG is a Division of the National Parks Board which is responsible for Singapore's network of parks and nature reserves.What you will be working on:You will be part of a Bukit Timah Forest Observatory project team to conduct the re-censuses of the two 2-ha Bukit Timah Forest Dynamics plots in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in collaboration with the Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University.The primary forest plot was established and first censused in 1993 and re-censused approximately every five years. These plots are part of the Forest Global Earth Observatory (ForestGEO) network of permanent research plots.You will also work closely with colleagues from the Conservation Division of the National Parks Board who manage Singapore's nature reserves.Specifically, you will:

  • Organise the procurement of equipment and services and support the administration, planning, and logistics for long-term scientific research in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
  • Maintain records, protocols, and data, including conducting quality control checks on data collected by the research team and associated personnel.
  • Assist in research grant administration and budget and project progress management.
  • Assist in engagement of stakeholders through organising events such as workshops, symposia, or seminars.
  • Assist in fundraising to support the long-term sustainability of the project.
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences/Management, Life Sciences, Geography, Science Communication, or related disciplines
  • Organised, meticulous, and independent
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment under time pressure
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Demonstrable interest in nature or forest conservation and scientific research
  • Some experience with project management will be advantageous
