[What the role is]The Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) is one of the oldest and premier tropical botanical gardens. It has an extensive collection of orchids, palms, cycads, gingers and plants of human cultural significance, including many significant and heritage trees which reflect its 160-year history.[What you will be working on]You will be part of the Living Collections team responsible for maintaining and developing the landscapes and plant collections in the Gardens. The area of work is within the heritage core (i.e. Tanglin Core), and comprises historical landscapes and plant collections that date back to the early years of the Garden.The work is multi-faceted and potentially entails the management of horticulture and landscape operations, research and monitoring of plant collections, propagation and conservation of rare plant species, landscaping and habitat restoration, developing interpretive materials for the public, contract management, and record keeping. Given the heritage value of the landscape you will be managing, you will also be expected to develop an interest in the Gardens\xe2\x80\x99 history, and take the lead in maintaining and developing these heritage landscapes and plant collections further.In addition to the collections-based aspects of the job, you will also oversee some of the standard operational components of Gardens management (e.g. park cleansing, wildlife management), and coordinate and work with the other operational teams in SBG (e.g. facilities, visitor services etc) to ensure the smooth running of the Gardens. You are also expected to be involved and contribute to programmes and activities in a public garden, including educational outreach, applied research, biodiversity and wildlife management, horticultural shows and corporate or social activities.[What we are looking for]Degree in horticulture, botany or a related field.Good communication, organisational, and supervisory skills.A hands-on person, enjoys outdoor work and a love for plants.A good team player and interested in developing current knowledge of tropical horticulture.Candidates with experience in developing and maintaining plant collections, preferably in a public park or garden, are preferred.Experience with and/or interest in growing aroids, ferns and succulents; and a good understanding of tropical rainforest ecology will be an advantage.Certified Practising Horticulturist (accredited with the Australian Institute of Horticulture) and/or Certified Arborist (accredited with the International Society of Arboriculture) will be an advantage.Only shortlisted candidate are notified.
