Job Description


Job responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for senior management level review and assessment as 2nd line of defence, covering corporate client business in APAC as well as product areas.
  • To assess and approve or reject individual credit applications from front offices in Asia Pacific region within delegated authority. It\'s coverage spans across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
  • Product coverage and range of credit applications are spread from corporate loan to project finance, LBO finance,asset finance, securitization and wealth management products.
  • To support/recommend transactions that are in excess of delegated authority for approval at higher levels, such as presentation at committee in Singapore and explanation to Senior management in Tokyo to obtain approbal for applications.
  • To monitor and control the Bank\'s credit exposure by each borrower, sector, country and to secure its portfolio is well diversified and risk resilient.
  • To lead and supervise Special Credit obligors (pre-non performing loan customers) and take measures for minimizing credit cost
  • To ensure credit decisions are soundly based, involve appropriate research/analysis, and reflect SMBC\'s credit underwriting standards.
  • To manage and supervise the activities of Senior Credit Officers(Team Head) and Credit Officers. In addition, to supervise the activities of Senior Credit Officers\' credit applications so as to ensure adequate oversight.
  • To negotiate and keep constructive working relationship with front office deal team leaders and senior management to enable best outcome for the bank.
  • To build a strong compliance and risk management culture, ensuring compliance with the Bank\'s risk policies, procedures, regulatory compliance standards and required practices.
Job Requirements
  • Degree/Masters degree in Banking and Finance or equivalent
  • At least 20 years working experience in bankiing, prior Credit experience is a must
  • Strong financial & credit analytical skills
  • Provide counsel to business partners including senior stakeholders and relevant business departments
  • Strong critical thinking, with the ability to understand detailed business and risk concepts, develop and defend an independent position based on a pragmatic and balanced assessment
  • Strategic and able to articulate vision and direction
  • Strong leadership and senior stakeholder management skills
  • Strong communication
  • Proficiency in Japanese is required as this role needs to liaise frequently with Head Office
