What the role is:The Transport Safety Investigation Bureau of Singapore (TSIB) is the independent investigation authority in Singapore responsible to the Ministry of Transport for the safety investigations of air, marine and rail accidents and incidents. The TSIB is looking for motivated and versatile Singapore citizens with dedication, diligence, patience and perseverance to join usWhat you will be working on:As a Marine Safety Investigator, you are responsible for carrying out marine casualty/incident investigations undertaken by the TSIB. The investigation tasks include accessing casualty/incident site (travelling is expected), planning the investigation, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, conducting investigation meetings, reporting on progress of investigation, identifying safety issues, determining the causal or contributing factors, making safety recommendations, and writing clear and robust investigation reports. You will also be involved in or responsible for operational planning, developing investigation procedures, updating investigation legislation, conducting investigation training, organising investigation logistics, procuring investigation equipment, researching into developments in investigation techniques, preparing discussion/policy papers and promoting safety to the maritime industry.What we are looking for:Possess appropriate professional qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer holding or having held as a minimum a Certificate of Competency (COC) Marine Engineer Officer or Deck Officer Class 1, and have maintained your technical knowledge of ships and their operation since gaining the certificate of competency; or Possess expertise in naval architecture, marine or offshore engineering or workplace safety and health in the marine environment. You are expected to have a good knowledge and understanding of International Conventions and Codes affecting safety of ships, navigation, and pollution prevention. Knowledge of Singapore legislations governing the safe operation of the port will be beneficial. Candidates with relevant experience at supervisory level or in marine casualty/incident investigation, and in particular with marine electronics and/or forensic data recovery experience will have an advantage. You should have an open, inquisitive mind, and be capable of objective, analytical and critical thinking. You need to be a team player and have good interpersonal, communication, leadership and planning skills.
