Job Description


Background:
Our client is currently in the process of recruiting a marine service technician to join their team. This role is of great importance as it involves servicing, repairing, installing, and commissioning the company\xe2\x80\x99s systems on ocean-going ships worldwide. The company\xe2\x80\x99s core values revolve around technology, teamwork, and service. The ideal candidate should possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to work independently and drive the business towards successful growth. It is preferable for the candidate to have prior experience working as a Service Engineer or Technician either on commercial vessels or in shipyards. A background in handling electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems is required, along with proficiency in troubleshooting systems that involve PLC and PC-based software environments. The company will provide comprehensive training to ensure proficiency.

The role will involve global travel, sometimes with short notice. While familiarity with the service requirements of the maritime industry is expected, the company strives to maintain a reasonable work-life balance by scheduling workloads in a way that accommodates personal obligations. The candidate will have the option to work from home as part of the flexible contract and will have the ability to manage their schedule based on workload demands.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Act as an on-ship resource for service and repair purposes.
  • Demonstrate technical competence and effectively manage inventory of spare parts, collaborating with the spares/service coordination team to achieve successful initial repairs.
  • Offer recommendations regarding spare parts inventory for customers.
  • Provide remote support to customers, including delivering work instructions to facilitate troubleshooting and self-repair of simple issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work in the administrative systems.
  • Prepare Method of Works and Plans of Action as required.
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager and Service Coordinator to efficiently schedule visits.
  • Keep in-house systems updated with service information reports.
  • Engage and coordinate with customers, captains, and port agents.
  • Handle necessary administrative tasks, such as filing reports, preparing expenses, and other duties related to the role.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning and implementing the company\xe2\x80\x99s HSQE policy, which is crucial given the challenging nature of some customer interactions and environments.

  • Technical understanding of electrical equipment, electronics, and marine instrumentation.
