Job Description


Citi Global Wealth (CGW) is a unified Wealth organization focused on delivering the full capabilities of Citi to clients across all Wealth segments including the Private Bank, Wealth at Work, and Citigold. Citi Global Wealth will become a single, integrated platform serving clients across the wealth continuum, from the affluent to ultra-high net worth.

CGW Risk Management is a global second line organization that is part of Personal Banking & Wealth Management (PBWM) Risk Management. It is tasked with providing independent risk challenge and oversight of the credit portfolio and broader risk-taking practices within the CGW business, ensuring such activities remain within defined risk appetite and limits.

The CGW APAC Regional Risk Head is a Managing Director (C16) role that reports directly to the CGW Chief Risk Officer.

Responsibilities of this Role:

  • Lead and manage the CGW independent risk management coverage team in the region. Provide independent risk oversight and challenge for the Asia Pacific CGW business covering the full range of client segments within CGW.
  • Actively represent CGW Risk in all relevant regional business committees and forums including High Risk Credit Risk Reviews, Regional Risk Committees, CPPAC, BRCFs, Reputational Risk & Conflict of Interest Committee, KYC & AML, Operational Risk Forum, Senior Public Figure & High Risk Client Review, Wealth New Activities Committee, Legal Vehicle risk management, and other governance committees/forums as applicable. Escalate matters of concern as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and influence teams within Wholesale Credit Risk including Financial Institutions & Counterparty Credit Risk Management (FICC), and ICG Real Estate Risk Management, as well as Retail Credit Risk to ensure that products delivered to CGW clients are suitable and that product risk frameworks and their delivery are aligned to risk appetite.
  • Act as an effective independent decision-maker, participating on credit decisions as appropriate to the credit delegation authority assigned by the organization. Escalate emerging trends and specific risks in a diligent and timely manner as necessary.
  • Evaluate and recommend Risk approval for relevant Credit Policies, Standards and Procedures, Product Programs, and regional guidelines that support the CGW offerings in the region.
  • Provide independent second line risk oversight of the CGW regional credit portfolio including credit portfolio management and stress testing as required by applicable Policies, Standards and Procedures.
  • Challenge first line business end to end data governance to promote correct reporting of CGW credit data in the various downstream wholesale and retail risk systems. Escalate material data quality issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate regional risk-related crisis management situations ensuring business and other Risk Units as appropriate take proper action, with prompt communication and escalation. Oversee high risk regional portfolio reviews.
  • Conduct client calls where required for material multi-product credit relationships.
  • Interface with coverage bankers, in-business credit and product partners in order to challenge credit transaction origination flow through greenlight processes, and ensure that all relevant Risk partners engage in and influence the direction of any complex, bespoke transactions early in the process.
  • Partner with other Risk Units such as FICC and ICG Real Estate Risk to ensure extensions of credit reflect CGW risk appetite, are in full compliance with all applicable Policies, Standards and Procedures, and target market criteria. In case of less than full compliance, ensure that exceptions are identified, escalated, approved and monitored in line with exception management guidelines.
  • Promote an independent holistic Risk culture within CGW Risk, with a keen focus on escalation and proactive management of emerging risks.
  • Carry CGW Regional Risk Officer responsibility for interfacing with local regulators, Internal Audit and Fundamental Credit Review.
  • Oversee Manager Control Assessment (MCA) process for regional CGW Risk MCA and partner with Wholesale Credit Risk and PBWM Risk Assessment Units to ensure that all risks and controls are captured either in the regional CGW Risk MCA or in the respective product MCAs.
  • Participate in franchise level remediation and transformation work-streams as required. Challenge ongoing CGW integration and growth strategy.
  • Oversee and ensure that appropriate Credit training to CGW staff across first and second line of defense in the region is provided in line with business and risk requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Managing Director, C16
  • BS or BA preferably with a Finance background. MBA or equivalent graduate studies a plus.
  • Senior Credit Officer Level 2 or equivalent (or ability to demonstrate the path toward SCO Level 2 authority within a short period of time).
  • At least 15 years prior experience in a credit-related, risk management and/or corporate banking role. Prior experience in Wealth or Wholesale Credit Risk preferred.
  • Ability to operate independently to deliver under tight timeframes, manage multiple complex and conflicting activities, and adapt to change in a fast -paced environment.
  • Expert in Risk decisioning across Risk stripes, with ability to leverage network and manage conflict while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with prior managerial experience.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, written and verbal presentation/influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively.
