Launched in 2007 as a joint initiative between Singapore Polytechnic and SPRING Singapore (now known as Enterprise Singapore), the Food Innovation and Resource Centre (FIRC) was established to provide food enterprises with technical expertise in new product and process development including packaging, shelf life evaluation, market testing and adopting automation and digitalisation for Industry 4.0 readiness. FIRC is one of the Innovation Centres under the Department of Technology, Innovation & Enterprise (TIE).
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the appointee will work in a team to propose solutions faced by SMEs clients in the food industry. He/she will participate in the development of Food re-engineering processes and customize building of food equipment for new and existing food products manufacturing and integrate them into existing/new process flow in the manufacturing plant, specialising in mechanical mechanism design for food processing applications. The appointee will also be involved seminars/courses relating to food processing systems.
Responsibilities:
Develop new and improve existing food production workflow using productive methods or technologies
Develop new and improve existing food equipment/system and integrate them into existing process flow in the manufacturing plant for clients
Source, identify and develop new technology to provide innovative solutions in food and process for equipment design for better shelf life extension, increased quality consistency improvement or legacy machines upgrade in the local food manufacturer applications
Liaise with clients, stakeholders and equipment suppliers to ensure the timely completion of projects and ensure compliance to customer specifications
Develop 3D mechanical design Model and 2D parts drawings using Solidworks or Inventor CAD software for projects proposals and prepare associated documentations
Keep abreast of trends and developments of additive manufacturing and Predictive Maintenance technology
Conduct machine testing, debugging and commissioning in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) & Site Acceptance Test (SAT) phase
Explore new design concept, learn and implement it for advanced manufacturing, Industrial 4.0, additive manufacturing, and future technology
Ensure design produced and proper project documentation are in compliance with hygiene regulatory and standards
Support the centre's operation through sourcing, maintaining, developing and identifying appropriate suppliers and technology to optimise in-house equipment uptime
Requirements:
At least 5 years of engineering related experience in mechanical system design & development, automation system or contract manufacturing environment
Relevant qualifications in Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering or related disciplines
Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD software, Solidworks/Inventor and AutoCAD 2D or DraftSight drafting
Experience working in the Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical industry will be an advantage
Equipped with system level technical knowledge and able to understand cross-functional technical methodology in manufacturing and factory automation equipment development
Experience in designing Robotic Systems or Fixtures & Tooling or Pick & Place Systems or Loaders/Unloaders
Experience in CAM system design will be an added advantage
Knowledge of mechanical parts fabrication processes such as machining, metal fabrication or cable harnessing or secondary treatment processes etc, will be an added advantage
Familiar with different motion implementation related design, simple pneumatic system design and sensor component selections
Possess Project Management skills to perform scheduling, budget control, vendor management and project status reporting
A positive self-driven and independent individual who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to learn and be committed to providing quality service to clients
Willing to travel to customer's site for frequent meetings and visits for better process study
Successful applicant will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
