Job Description

The Collins Innovation Hub seeking a junior mechanical design engineer for an applications development role. He/She will be responsible for designing, prototyping and fabricating of engineering solutions to support innovation efforts in the area of mechanical design for assisting in the production and repair of airplane components. The candidate will have excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering and design disciplines to ensure the application of technical rigor and best practices from conceptualization to execution. RESPONSIBILITIES Successful applicants will work with the Collins Aerospace IET team to develop technologies for use in Manufacturing and MRO operations.

• Working with an interdisciplinary team members and with site stakeholders, participate in design and development of automation systems of the company’s Industry 4.0 implementation.
• Work in a cross-functional team to identify opportunities for implementation of advanced technology, in line with the business strategy of the company to modernize manufacturing and MRO operations.
• Design, develop, build and test mechanical components, assemblies and structures, including CAD models and working prototypes for demonstration.
• Project execution including hardware analysis, manufacturing support, design engineering and testing for components that may involve robotic, pneumatic, hydraulic and servo actuated systems.
• Other tasks as may be assigned.

REQUIREMENT

• Bachelor’s degree or Polytechnic Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Working experience in a Mechanical or Design Engineering role in a production environment is a plus.
• Proficiency with CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
• Experience in reading, interpreting, and creating CAD drawings
• Experience in geometric tolerances and statistical tolerance analysis
• Ability to operate tools (e.g. drill press, band saw etc)
• Familiar with Lean manufacturing concepts will be a plus
• Familiarity with Design Thinking methodology will be a plus.
