What you'll do

This is a senior leadership team member and commercial partner to ensure overall company goals are achieved. Lead the change in organisational behaviour to successfully implement medical marketing activities leading to scientific leadership. Accountable for the strategic direction, establishing required defined standards of medical capability, business/resource planning, scientific leadership and people processes (recruitment, talent management, motivation, retention) as the function head within a country. Direct and support the function to assure medical operational excellence, and collaborates with compliance to ensure full compliance and adherence to company standards on ethical interactions. Act as the Good Clinical Practice Quality Lead for the company.

  • Define priorities, design Medical strategic plans to align with country scorecard and ensure scientific priorities are implemented
  • Build and develop an effective Medical Affairs team that is customer focused, performance driven, cross collaborating and people centred with robust systems and processes and the right capability in place to meet the current and future needs
  • Support the establishment of AZ as a scientific leader, through pro-active medical inputs
  • Generate medical evidence to support brand strategy in priority therapy areas to meet unmet medical needs
  • Provide medical expertise to shape regulatory environment to achieve rapid and high quality market access of AZ products
  • Ensure governance and overall adherence to processes and regulation, including but not limited to patient safety, clinical trials, promotional activities, etc.
  • Support operational implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) within the GxP areas to meet obligations of license to operate
Essential for the role
  • Masters degree in a scientific discipline
  • Extensive experience of Medical Affairs function within a pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management
  • Project management experience
  • Extensive team management experience
  • Working knowledge of clinical trials and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem
  • Good understanding and fluency of license to operate areas such as GxP, compliance etc
Desirable for the role
  • Qualified Doctor
  • PhD in a scientific discipline
  • Understanding of multiple aspects within Medical Affairs, preferably with TA expertise in Oncology
  • Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory developments
  • Enterprise mindset and cross-functional acumen with commercial leaders
