About the Project:



Our company is resetting up the Johore Battery Museum. The project is a new heritage initiative dedicated to preserving and showcasing the site's rich military history through open-air exhibits, interactive installations, and immersive storytelling experiences. The project aims to highlight Singapore's World War II heritage while reimagining outdoor curation as a platform for education, reflection, and public engagement.





Role Summary:



As a Museum Curator Assistant (Intern

)

, you will work closely with the Curator to support the planning, research, and setup of this outdoor museum. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about heritage conservation, museum curation, or history -- and who enjoy both creative and hands-on work in an outdoor setting.





Key Responsibilities:



Assist the Curator in developing exhibit concepts, storylines, and visitor flow for the outdoor museum. Assist to conduct research on Johore Battery's historical background, artefacts, and military heritage. Coordinate exhibit layouts, signage, and interpretive materials for outdoor displays. Assist and support site preparations, artefact documentation, and display installation. Liaise with designers, contractors, and vendors involved in exhibit construction and maintenance. Assist in developing educational and visitor engagement materials (e.g., exhibit labels, information boards, brochures). Help organize and catalogue archives, photographs, and historical records. Provide on-site logistical and administrative support during setup and opening phases. Participate in curatorial meetings and contribute creative ideas for storytelling and visitor experience design.


Requirements:



Pursuing or recently completed a Diploma/Degree in History Studies or related field. Strong interest in heritage preservation, public history, and cultural education. Good research, writing, and organizational skills. Comfortable working in outdoor environments. Able to work independently and collaboratively within a small team. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator) is an advantage.


Learning Outcomes:



Gain hands-on curatorial experience in developing and setting up an outdoor heritage museum. Learn practical aspects of exhibition planning, site interpretation, and visitor engagement. Understand the process of translating historical research into public storytelling. Receive formal credits and acknowledgmentfor contributions to the museum setup.
