Job Description

OFFICE LOCATION

Singapore, Asia Singapore or in any other countries in Southeast Asia where TNC has an office or affiliated local entity

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1951, the Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization dedicated to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. Guided by science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world's toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters, and oceans at unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. One of our core values is our commitment to diversity. Therefore, we strive for a globally diverse and culturally competent workforce. Working in 72 countries, including all 50 United States, we use a collaborative approach that engages local communities, governments, the private sector, and other partners. To learn more, visit www.nature.org or follow @nature_press on Twitter. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has shown that nature-based solution (NbS)—sustainably managing, restoring and protecting forests and other lands—can provide up to a third of the solution to climate change by 2030. NbS can also provide a range of other benefits, such as protecting biodiversity, improving watershed function, increasing resilience, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. Southeast Asia is facing unprecedented demand for carbon abatement and hence, an unparalleled opportunity to access and direct climate finance to NbS that deliver not only climate outcomes, but outcomes for biodiversity and people as well. In Asia Pacific, TNC has joined with 7 other NGOs to form the Southeast Asia Climate and Nature-based Solution (SCeNe) Coalition* in recognition of the scale of action required, the time-bound opportunity for impact and the risks to people and nature if we do not act collaboratively to speed up and scale up design and implementation of high-integrity and high-quality NbS. The extensive experience of these environmental NGOs in the development and execution of NbS offers a powerful, shared platform to inform and influence this rapidly growing sector. In the first three years, the Coalition will focus on three inter-connected workstreams that together will scale NbS in the region: i) define the opportunities of where ‘triple benefit’ NbS investment should be made; ii) showcase high-integrity projects to inspire others; and iii) support national and local organizations to access carbon finance and secure funds for conservation. The Governance of the Coalition includes a Steering Committee comprised of the Asia-based leaders of the member organizations, with a rotating Chair. The Steering Committee has overall responsibility for the strategy, oversight, fundraising and delivery of the Coalition aims. Each workstream is led by a member organization (i.e. Workstream Manager) with all members contributing time and expertise through Expert Teams. The NbS Coalition Manager will be the first Secretariat position to be hired with the aim to accelerate the pace and scale of the Coalition’s impact, including building a small Secretariat team to be hosted by TNC, subject to the successful execution and resourcing of the Coalition’s full body of work.

YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The NbS Coalition Manager will be responsible for both executing the broad strategic direction of the SCeNe Coalition (under the guidance of the Steering Committee) and the day-to-day management of Coalition activities across all workstreams, including administrative and programmatic functions. This includes working directly with Business Units (BUs) in individual countries and global teams within TNC to source internal expertise and maintain strategic alignment, and well as with the 7 other Coalition member organizations, Coalition funders and other partners/stakeholders. The preferred location for this position is Singapore, with the potential to recruit candidates based and legally able to work in other countries in Southeast Asia where TNC has an office or affiliated local entity. No sponsorship for relocation and/or support for immigration and visa is provided.
