What this Job Entails:
The Network Operations Engineer I is an entry-level engineering role focused on supporting the daily operations of both optical and IP networks. Working under general supervision, this engineer assists in monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems to ensure optimal performance and minimal service disruptions. This role offers the opportunity to grow technical skills across multiple networking domains and contribute to the success of a global infrastructure.
Scope:

• Support routine monitoring of network health and performance.
• Assist in identifying and troubleshooting basic network issues.
• Follow established procedures to maintain and repair network hardware and software.
• Collaborate with more senior engineers and cross-functional teams (XFNs) to address network needs.
• Learn and grow technical expertise across IP and optical technologies.

Your Roles and Responsibilities:
Network Support & Management

• Perform initial triage of network alarms and issues using monitoring tools.
• Assist in basic troubleshooting of optical (DWDM, CWDM) and IP network components.
• Help maintain accurate records of network equipment, configurations, and incidents.

Issue Escalation & Coordination

• Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to escalate issues when necessary
• Support investigations of network anomalies and document preliminary findings.
• Assist in preparing summaries or reports of service interruptions and corrective actions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Communicate and collaborate with service providers, data center teams, and other internal stakeholders.
• Participate in network infrastructure projects in a supporting role.

Learning & Development

• Continually build knowledge of fiber optic systems, IP protocols, and network best practices.
• Gain exposure to industry-standard network tools, processes, and equipment.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

• Bachelor's degree (B.S/B.A) from four-college or university and 0 to 2 years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Foundational understanding of:

• IP networking concepts (IPv4/IPv6, BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
• Optical technologies (e.g., DWDM, CWDM, fiber types, optical modules)
• Basic troubleshooting skills across hardware and network systems.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Follows standard practice and procedures when analysing situations or data
• Understanding of fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies
• Understanding of preparing root cause analysis for any network outages
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to work with service providers, colocation facilities, and ISPs around the world

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment.
• Experience or familiarity with network monitoring and ticketing tools.
• Hands-on experience with multi-vendor network environments (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, etc.).
• Entry-level certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA or similar.
