ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY


Within Global Services Engineering team of the Service Delivery Department, the Network Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting commissioning of new services and providing 24x7 Level 3 Managed Services on-call support to the SES NOC. In addition, they will be responsible for engineering escalations and other services to keep the network stabilized and maintained for customer SLA requirements. The role will be primarily focused on the IP Network Components of the SES product portfolio, but also includes monitoring tools & Linux administration elements. As a customer facing position, it will concentrate on the support and growth of existing & new business products. The engineer will gain a broad knowledge of the SES product range and how these are inte-grated as customer solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

Configuration, testing & implementation of SES Products \xc2\x81 Deploying monitoring tools using both industry standard and bespoke systems to enable effective alarming and historical data collection of the customer\xe2\x80\x99s end to end systems \xc2\x81 Design, plan & execute operational changes as required, adhering to the defined Company ITIL Change Management and Internal Quality process \xc2\x81 Level 3 Operations Engineering support of customer\xe2\x80\x99s sites in-service, to include Network Operations Centre escalation\xe2\x80\x99s via on-call 24/7 rotational support basis; coaching of Level 2 NOC personnel \xc2\x81 Work efficiently as part of a Global multidisciplinary team, utilizing \xe2\x80\x9cFollow the Sun\xe2\x80\x9d methodology \xc2\x81 Perform routine auditing of assigned Regional Area or specific Customer Sites; liaising closely with the Network Operations Centre and appropriate internal stakeholders \xc2\x81 Collaborate with Engineering & Product Development teams in order to support the growth of the SES portfolio of products, act as the \xe2\x80\x9cvoice of operations\xe2\x80\x9d to help ensure new products will fit into the operational environment \xc2\x81 Proactively expand areas of knowledge and seek out new experience \xc2\x81 Ad-hoc tasks as assigned by line manager

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Education at University level within Engineering or appropriate demonstratable industry experience \xc2\x81 Minimum of 5 years experience in IP internetworking with demonstratable experience in the satellite, telecommunications or service provider environment \xc2\x81 Juniper / Cisco experience, certifications preferred (JNCIS, JNCIP, CCNA, CCNP) \xc2\x81 Advanced level TCP/IP and routing knowledge (BGP,OSPF,ISIS,BFD) \xc2\x81 3+ years of experience in MPLS, Layer 2 / 3 VPNs, VPLS, Carrier Ethernet, CoS/QoS and IPsec \xc2\x81 Network analysis and management experience using SNMP, NTP, DNS, SSH, etc. \xc2\x81 Advanced level troubleshooting and debugging skills \xc2\x81 Understanding of GSO / NGSO Satellite Constellations, Satellite Communications & Advanced Networking principles \xc2\x81 Experience in managing satellite or telecommunications projects with a background in ITIL methodologies \xc2\x81 Ability to design, plan, coordinate network maintenance and installation windows \xc2\x81 Experience with Unix / Linux systems administration and creation of shell scripts to automate tasks \xc2\x81 Experience of Cloud based services such as Azure or Amazon Web Services a plus \xc2\x81 Experience of dealing directly with customers and understand how to manage expectations
