The Occupational Therapist Aide (OTA) plays a crucial role in supporting elderly residents with functional rehabilitation and therapy-related activities under the supervision of the DON. The OTA facilitates residents' physical and cognitive development through structured activities, promotes independence in daily living skills (ADLs), and ensures a safe and engaging rehabilitation environment. The OTA also manages therapy records, maintains equipment, and monitors progress to support continuous care.
Key Responsibilities
Therapy Implementation and Resident Support
+ Conduct individual and group therapy sessions as directed by DON/DDON or referring therapist.
+ Assist residents with rehabilitative activities including range of motion, perceptual motor training, fine motor skills, and basic ADLs.
+ Teach residents to perform tasks such as transfers, stretching, coloring, puzzles, or creative activities (e.g., origami).
Activity Planning and Engagement
+ Plan, schedule, and conduct daily functional activities to stimulate residents' physical and cognitive abilities.
+ Encourage participation and adapt tasks based on residents' individual capabilities and progress.
Therapy Room and Equipment Maintenance
+ Clean and maintain therapy equipment and modalities after each use.
+ Ensure therapy areas are hygienic, organized, and ready for sessions.
+ Monitor and manage therapy supplies and inventory levels.
Documentation and Progress Tracking
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes for each resident's therapy activities and progress.
+ Evaluate therapy outcomes and document reviews every three months.
+ Submit monthly therapy reports to DON/DDON, including resident ADL improvements and participation statistics.
Administrative Support
+ File residents' therapy records and departmental documents appropriately.
+ Maintain statistics of therapy attendance and rehabilitation progress.
+ Prepare materials and forms needed for activities and documentation.
Safety and Quality Compliance
+ Follow all safety procedures when assisting residents with therapy activities.
+ Identify and report residents' therapy-related discomfort or unusual behaviors.
+ Uphold infection control and hygiene standards in therapy areas.
Ad-hoc Duties
+ Support other duties as assigned by the DON/DDON, including assisting with events or supporting other clinical or administrative functions where relevant.
