JOB SCOPE ArtScience Museum is recruiting for a Public Programmes Officer. ArtScience Museum is an iconic cultural landmark in Singapore. Our mission is to explore where art, science, culture and technology come together. It is here at the intersection of art and science that innovation and new ideas are formed. We like to say “it’s where the future is created”. Our striking lotus-inspired building, designed by Moshe Safdie, features 21 gallery spaces spanning nearly 5000m2. Since opening in February 2011, we have held large-scale exhibitions by some of the world’s best known artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh and M.C. Escher. In addition, we have presented significant exhibitions that explore aspects of science including big data, particle physics, paleontology, marine biology, and cosmology and space exploration. Through its programmes of exhibitions, events, performances and education activities, ArtScience Museum shows how the world around us is transformed by art, science, technology and culture. The Public Programmes unit is responsible for developing and implementing a year-round programme for a wide range of audiences, reaching over 100,000 participants annually. These include:

  • ArtScience Late, a monthly late-night event anchored by a free performance programme which explores artistic creation through performance, with one-for-one exhibition ticket offer;
  • ArtScience in Focus, a quarterly series of thematic showcases featuring collaborations with education, art, science and technology partners;
  • Conversations and Insights Talks, talks-based events which bring together subject matter experts and industry leaders for insightful presentations and sharing; and
  • ArtScience on Screen, a rolling film programmes featuring filmmakers and artists who explore the intersection between art and science using moving image, video and film.
Summary of the Role The Public Programmes Officer provides key support within the Programmes Department in developing and implementing ArtScience Museum’s public programmes, including artist-led performances, collaborative showcases, conferences and talks, film screenings and other public events organised throughout the year. These are designed to critically and creatively engage with the Museum’s mandate and contextualise its exhibition themes, and communicate to a broad range of audiences in clear and direct ways the concept of ArtScience - the intersection between art, science, culture and technology. The Public Programmes Officer will assist to develop, plan, manage and execute ArtScience Museum’s public programmes with a keen understanding of programming development and production requirements, working closely with colleagues across multiple departments, as well as artists, collaborators and vendors. This position will require nights, weekends and Public Holidays, and willingness to adjust hours to accommodate programming needs. The Programmes department delivers in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As such, ArtScience Museum seeks an enthusiastic, committed individual who is able to work independently and as part of a team. The post-holder should have experience in event management and production, demonstrating the ability to organise work flows, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and work concurrently on several projects with minimum supervision. The post-holder should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, competent in communicating information effectively, accurately and positively. This position also requires tactful, creative problem-solving abilities. Primary Responsibilities
  • Support with the planning, organising, administration and execution of the museum’s public programmes which include artist-led performances, collaborative showcases, conferences and talks, film screenings and other public events organised throughout the year.
  • Track project timelines, budgets, logistics plans, technical production needs and event schedules, ensuring every aspect of the Museum’s commitment to the programme stays on schedule.
  • Act as a point person between artists, collaborators, third-party vendors and the museum as needed.
  • Coordinate and deliver production and logistics aspects such as schedule preparation, technical production liaison, permits/licensing application, ground transport, and travel and hospitality arrangements.
  • Assist with site walk-throughs, set-up, deployment, run and load-out, ensuring safe working conditions in compliance with Workplace Safety and Health regulations.
  • Support frontline and backend operations, working closely with internal teams (Visitor Services, MICE, Technical, Security, Facilities, Visual Media, MarComms Social) to ensure event success and adherence to protocols.
  • Liaise on approved write-ups and images for marketing, social media and other promotional platforms.
  • Support vendor communications pertaining to their services as needed.
  • Coordinate evaluation of programmes, including collating feedback for data analysis and reporting.
  • Conduct post-event evaluation to identify and implement areas of improvements as needed.
  • Assist with record keeping and organise documentation of working documents, content files, audio-visual materials, etc.
  • Supporting other projects and duties as assigned.
  • To deputise for Assistant Manager of Public Programmes, when required.
  • Other duties as directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in arts management, cultural studies, social sciences or relevant field.
  • At least one to two years’ experience in a similar role within museums or arts and cultural institutions with knowledge of programming development and production.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of a second language is desirable.
  • Work on evenings, weekends and public holidays when required, and willing to adjust hours to accommodate programming needs.
  • Highly motivated, independent and organised, and ability to deliver in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to assist with multiple projects in various stages of development and handle a broad spectrum of responsibilities and tasks with attention to detail.
  • Strong resilience and flexibility, and ability to propose creative solutions in a variety of situations.
  • Positive team player and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with diverse teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and cultural diplomacy.
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion, and maintain calm demeanor in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience of researching content with the ability to get behind new topics.
  • Competent in computer systems, word processing, spreadsheet and data management programmes. Knowledge of photo and video editing softwares is a plus.
  • Positive, curious, willing to learn and support the overall mission of ArtScience Museum, with a passion for developing and implementing audience-centred programmes in the arts and culture ecology.
