We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a Patent Scientist to join our Singapore team on a Full-time basis. This position plays an essential role in the smooth and efficient running of Patent practice. Offering Hybrid work arrangements QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • PhD in chemistry, preferably with expertise in materials science, additive manufacturing, membrane science, or battery related technologies
  • Post doctoral and/or industry experience will be viewed favourably
  • A legal background is not required

  • Prepared to undertake further (part-time) studies to qualify as a Patent Attorney (typically 2-5 years in duration)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (un der the supervision of a Principal )
  • Meeting with inventors to determine the nature of proposed inventions and to form a view as to their patentability; this requires the trainee patent attorney to draw on his/her experience in the fields mentioned above and on his/her exceptional communication skills
  • Conducting/arranging patent searches, analysing the results and reporting to clients
  • Corresponding directly with local corporate clients, individual inventors, overseas Patent Attorney clients and overseas corporate clients in respect of a wide range of intellectual property matters including:
  • Advising on patentability of inventions
  • Advising on matters of Singapore Patent Law, including disclosure requirements, novelty and inventiveness requirements
  • Providing patent infringement advice, including clearance advice on whether products/processes may infringe 3rd party patents in Singapore
  • Preparing patent specifications for inventions, and discussing same with clients
  • Filing patent applications at the Singapore Patent Office for local and overseas clients, including corporate clients and overseas associates
  • Filing international patent applications at the Singapore Patent Office
  • Coordinating and filing overseas patent applications for Singapore clients
  • Advising on patent revocation proceedings
  • Coordinating clients international patent portfolios, including assisting clients to devise Intellectual Property strategies for particular inventions or industry sectors
