The Physiotherapist Aide (PTA) supports the rehabilitation and mobility needs of elderly residents under the direction of the DON. This role is especially crucial in assisting residents with stroke recovery and mobility impairments, focusing on exercises to improve limb function, flexibility, and overall movement. The PTA contributes to both individual and group physiotherapy sessions, ensures safety during therapeutic activities, and maintains therapy equipment and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Therapy and Rehabilitation Support
+ Conduct assigned individual and group therapy sessions under the supervision of DON.
+ Guide residents through ambulation exercises, gait training, range-of-motion (ROM), and muscular re-education activities.
+ Assist with the use of equipment such as pedal exercisers, support bars, splints, and parallel bars.
Stroke and Mobility Rehabilitation
+ Walk alongside stroke residents using safety belts and mobility aids to ensure safe and stable ambulation.
+ Monitor residents during therapy for signs of fatigue, distress, or abnormal mobility and alert nurses accordingly.
+ Support group sessions for standing therapy, bedside ROM, and functional games.
Equipment and Environment Safety
+ Prepare, clean, and maintain therapy equipment daily to ensure safe operation.
+ Assist residents with safe usage of electrotherapy, heat therapy, and mobility aids.
+ Ensure physiotherapy spaces are tidy, hazard-free, and ready for use.
Documentation and Case Review
+ Maintain accurate therapy records, case notes, and attendance logs for all sessions.
+ Conduct progress reviews every 3 months, recording residents' improvements and care needs.Submit monthly reports on rehabilitation progress and therapy participation to DON/DDON.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
+ Work closely with OT Aides and nursing staff to support holistic care and coordinated therapy efforts.
+ Share observations with nursing and therapy teams to enhance care planning and safety monitoring.
Administrative Support
+ File documentation, track therapy statistics, and assist with departmental administrative forms and records.
+ Maintain inventory of physiotherapy items, equipment, and exercise tools.
Quality and Compliance
+ Ensure all therapy is conducted in accordance with care protocols and safety standards.
+ Monitor and report changes in resident health status before and after therapy sessions.
+ Take blood pressure and temperature of residents before each session when required.
Ad-hoc Duties
+ Support other duties as assigned by DON, including rehab events, audits, or coordination with external therapists when needed.
