Job Description


:Responsibilities :Support day-to-day operations by:PlanningWorking on diary events and news calendar -

  • Plan for and decide on coverage, with inputs from senior editors or beat editors as necessary.
  • Deploy reporters, with the necessary newsgathering resource (camera man, sound man, live U etc.)
  • Brief reporters on possible story angle and first deliverables
  • Plan for a good mix of stories (with strong headlines, human interest stories and stories with good visuals) everyday, including weekends and public holidays
Sourcing for stories
  • Monitor trending issues in social media and other news outlets and decide on follow up actions (including assigning for coverage or sending to senior editors or beat editors for further assessment)
  • Monitor Gebiz for government tender and decide on follow up actions
Responding to breaking news situation -
  • Deploy reporters and newsgathering resources to the ground as soon as news breaks
  • Confirm the story
  • Alert Output team and if necessary, ensure breaking news bar is put up at the first possible moment
  • Assign vetters to supervise coverage if beat editor is not available, with inputs from senior editors
Present and explain coverage plan in morning editorial meeting or afternoon planning meeting, gather feedback from Sup Eds/ DCE/ CE/ Output to refine coverage planLiaise with other news gathering departments in the MediaCorp network to maximise the use of company resources.Vetting
  • De-brief and guide reporters on how stories should be developed (eg: including getting reactions from relevant parties, and other visual elements like graphics)
  • Review stories filed by reporters to ensure accuracy and news worthiness with the best use of audio and visual elements
  • Review stories after video editing or during TX and provide timely feedback to reporters
Ensure all on air content adheres to the free-to-air production code stipulated by the regulatory authorityPlay an active role in setting editorial direction in news coverageCoordinate special editorial projects (eg: NDP) as assignedQualifications:Requirements:
  • A dynamic individual with a good University Degree
  • Excellent command of the English Language, both written and oral, and a good grasp of political issues
  • At least 5 years of experience at Editor level
  • Be prepared to work irregular hours
