About the Platform Linux Engineer Role:
In this business critical Linux engineer role, you will be part of an established team focusing on developing their technology innovation practice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the on-prem and cloud-based server fleet: You will manage both the on-premises and cloud-based servers. This includes provisioning, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the server infrastructure
• Tuning and optimisation: You will work on optimising the server fleet\'s operating system and hardware components. This involves fine-tuning system settings, optimising resource allocation, and identifying areas for improvement to enhance performance and efficiency
• Collaboration with developer teams: You will closely collaborate with various developers to ensure their applications run optimally on the server infrastructure. This may involve troubleshooting performance issues, providing guidance on best practices, and identifying opportunities for performance enhancements
• Automation: You will focus on automating tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. This may involve scripting, configuration management, and implementing infrastructure-as-code principles to enable faster provisioning, deployment, and scaling of server resources
• Enhancing monitoring capabilities: You will improve the server fleet\'s existing monitoring stack. This includes evaluating and implementing new monitoring tools, configuring alerts and thresholds, and developing dashboards for better visibility into system performance, availability, and resource utilisation

To succeed in this Platform Linux Engineer role, you must have experience with performance tuning, bare metal server automation and the ability to help with application benchmarking.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor\'s degree or above in a technical subject (Computer Science or similar)
• Advanced Linux knowledge: Proficient in CentOS/RHEL 7x, 8x, with a focus on automation, systems engineering, and performance tuning
• Performance benchmarking: Able to measure and evaluate system performance to identify areas for improvement.
• Low latency networking: Familiarity with technologies such as onload (Solarflare/Xilinx) to optimise network performance
• System tuning tools: Experience using tools for fine-tuning system performance
• Scripting proficiency: Fluent in scripting languages such as bash, Python, and Ruby
• Network protocols: Working knowledge of various network protocols
• Configuration management tools: Experience with tools like Puppet, Ansible, or Chef for streamlined configuration management
• Containerisation: Knowledge of containerisation technologies
• Google Cloud Platform: Experience working with the Google Cloud Platform for cloud-based infrastructure management
• Kubernetes: Familiarity with Kubernetes for container orchestration and management
• C++ toolchain: Proficiency with C++ toolchain components like gcc, clang, cmake, and conan for development purposes
