Job Description


The Department of Japanese Studies and the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore jointly invite applications for one fully funded postdoctoral fellow for 1 year (Academic Year 2024-25). Postdoctoral fellows are chosen from a competitive selection process. They will spend one year with the departments working on research for a book manuscript or articles. In addition, they are expected to deliver a research seminar on their research during their fellowship and teach one or more courses and/or teach tutorials depending on the needs of both departments. The one-year fellowship period is from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, and the fellow is expected to reside in Singapore for the duration of the fellowship. The fellowship will be subject to all rules and regulations of the National University of Singapore.QualificationsA doctoral degree is required by one month prior to the start of the fellowship. Candidates must provide confirmation of successful completion of their terminal doctoral degree, in the form of a diploma or a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution\'s Registrar. Applicants may not be more than three years beyond the receipt of their doctoral degree at the start of the fellowship. Applicants should possess professional proficiency in Japanese, Mandarin and English as they will need to conduct research and teach courses in all 3 languages. Applicants must specialise in East Asian Media Studies with a further sub-specialisation in Digital Humanities and be able to teach and research on Japan and China. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in interdisciplinary research.Applicants should send to , by email attachment, a dossier comprising:

  • Proposed course outline for course to be offered at NUS and copies of student evaluations of previous courses taught (if any);
  • Three letters of reference and one additional letter from the PhD supervisor (to be sent directly to the above email address)
