Department purpose and structure
Our business development, marketing and communication teams contribute to the setting and achievement of the firm's business objectives, which includes supporting our partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming our clients' trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally, and positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite law firms. The function works as one team across the globe with very close collaboration between the central groups - such as Communications - and professionals supporting offices, practice groups, sectors, and clients. We have business development (BD) teams embedded in, and dedicated to supporting, the global practice and sector groups.

Join our dynamic India Practice Group as the Practice Area Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our India-focused business development activity and legal work.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, entrepreneurial person with an understanding of the India market to take on a leadership role that blends business development, practice management, and cross-border collaboration. You'll work at the heart of our India Group, connecting teams across Singapore, London, and beyond, and making a real impact on our strategy and client relationships.

Role and responsibilities
  • Lead and Coordinate: Manage India Group meetings, set agendas, and ensure seamless collaboration across offices and practice areas.
  • Business Development: Partner with senior lawyers to craft and execute strategic business and client development plans. Identify new market opportunities and help draft, build and win major pitches.
  • Relationship Management: Build and nurture relationships with top independent law firms in India and coordinate joint client initiatives.
  • Marketing & Profile Raising: Oversee India-focused marketing campaigns, our social media profile, PR activities, and thought leadership. Shape the Group's presence at major conferences and events.
  • Financial & Strategic Reporting: Track and report on the India Group's financial performance, client activity, and market trends.
  • Event Leadership: Plan and deliver high-impact client seminars, roundtables, and flagship events, working with the Events and BD teams.
  • Talent & Community Engagement: Support recruitment, student engagement, and pro bono projects. Liaise with the India Law Society on regulatory developments and firm responses.
  • Internal Communications: Foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration, ensuring the Group stays ahead of market developments.
Key requirements
  • 3-6 years' experience in business development and marketing.
  • A strong track record in the India market preferred.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for building relationships and driving change.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work with senior partners and clients across cultures and time zones.
  • A strategic thinker who's also happy to roll up their sleeves and get things done.
  • Passionate about India's legal and business landscape, with a strong network and a finger on the pulse of market trends.
  • High attention to detail and strong client focus.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and deliver under pressure, prioritise different tasks, and manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Ability to plan ahead, anticipate workload; balance conflicting priorities; and does not over-commit the team or him/herself - always manages expectations.
