Job Description


UWCSEA has a vacancy from August 2025 at its Dover Campus for a full time Primary EAL Teacher.Reporting to the Primary School Principal and the Head of Primary EAL, the EAL Teacher supports English Language Learners to achieve their potential and access the five elements of UWCSEA\xe2\x80\x99s Learning Programme. The Primary EAL Teacher will work with all teachers in supporting English Language Learners from Grade K1 to Grade 5. Experience with Early Years would be an advantage.Please note that to apply for this role, you must have an internationally recognised qualification and reside in Singapore.Main ResponsibilitiesTeaching

  • Work with students individually, in small groups, or within mainstream classrooms who require additional English language support to access the curriculum.
  • Deliver engaging, targeted lessons focusing on English language skills for scaffolding instruction and to differentiate teaching strategies to accommodate students\' varying levels of English proficiency
  • Partner with classroom teachers to enhance language development and academic language proficiency,
Assessment and tracking
  • Conduct assessments for student applicants to UWCSEA who may have EAL needs and ensure appropriate provision is available on entry
  • Assess students\' English language proficiency using diagnostic tools and ongoing formative assessments.
  • Use systems for monitoring and tracking English Language Learners\' progress in English
  • Maintain detailed records of student\'s progress and provide regular reports to parents and school leadership
  • Contribute to parent-teacher meetings by offering insights into students\xe2\x80\x99 language development
Advocacy
  • Assist with providing differentiated programmes for individual students
  • Advocate for your students and support them in their difficulties in terms of their friendships or other pastoral needs
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that respects students\' cultural and language identities
Administration and Communication
  • Maintain records on the College\xe2\x80\x99s online Information System as required by the Head of PS EAL
  • Attend, as appropriate, grade level, school level, student support and curriculum meetings
  • Collaborate with the Learning Support team to address individual learning needs.
Training and Pedagogical Support
  • Assist in the planning of workshop sessions for teachers, assistants and parents
  • Conduct presentations to parents and teachers as needed
  • Provide strategic and differentiated practice support within the classroom to help all learners access the curriculum.

  • A relevant degree, teaching qualification and minimum 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 teaching experience are essential. We are looking for an EAL specialist who has formal training in English Language Learning (EAL/ESL, CLIL, EMI etc.) or Applied Linguistics and has previous experience working with Multilingual students, preferably in an international or multicultural setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, intercultural communication skills, experience and pedagogical knowledge in areas outlined by the UWCSEA Learning Principles and the UWCSEA Profile.
  • Experience in developing concept-based teaching material, contemporary assessment practices and the application of blended learning to enhance learning.
  • Experience with Early Years would be an advantage.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, self-manage and think and act in critical, creative and innovative ways to support teaching and learning.
  • Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics\xcd\xbe Activities\xcd\xbe Outdoor Education\xcd\xbe Personal and Social Education, and Service.
  • Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning.
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
  • Pastoral expectations include the leadership of a Mentor group.
