Job Description


UWCSEA East is seeking a Primary School Language Teaching Assistant (Bilingual /French/ Spanish) to join in August 2023.

Reporting to the Primary School Leadership Team, the teaching assistant (TA) will assist in the delivery of learning engagements within language lessons in the classroom environment and other settings as directed by the teacher in support of their language learning. This may be a full time role for a bilingual TA or 2 part time roles, one for a French speaker and one for Spanish speaker.

Main Responsibilities

Pre-lesson Support

  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement learning engagements based on student progress
  • Support students during break times as well as arrival and departure as required
During Lesson Support
  • Assist in delivering targeted support within the classroom environment and other settings to allocated students under the guidance of the teacher
  • Communicate effectively with students and ensure that their learning is prioritised and supported fully and appropriately
  • Work with a student individually or in a small group settings
  • Use technology to support childrens\xe2\x80\x99 learning
  • Engage in all aspects of student learning and curriculum, including programme delivery
Documentation
  • Monitor and document student learning, well being and behaviour in an effort to better meet students\xe2\x80\x99 needs and goals
  • Observe the student and take anecdotal notes to inform planning of appropriate interventions, and next steps

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrating a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
  • Build positive, productive relationships with the students to support their engagement and learning, including building opportunities to draw on student interests and strengths within the learning programme

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of individual/family circumstances.
  • Abide by the school\xe2\x80\x99s policies and practices, including the professional code of conduct.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions within the school setting and on school business.
  • Engage in, and complete all required safeguarding training and use relevant College systems.
  • Use initiative to take on additional responsibilities as and when required.
  • Any other administrative duties as assigned.
Person Specifications
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French and/ or Spanish is essential
  • Experience in school settings is essential
  • Minimum certificate/diploma in related discipline
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in similar capacity with children aged 4 - 11years old.
  • Proficient in spoken and/ or written French and/ or Spanish
  • Experience working with students is essential
  • Must be passionate about working with children to positively impact their learning,
  • Excellent English (written and spoken) communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work cohesively in a team-based environment as well as independently
  • Must be able flexible, willing and able to adapt and change at short notice in response to student and school needs
  • A willingness to learn and a commitment to ongoing professional learning is essential to keep up-to date and continue to improve own practice
  • Proficient with technology including Google platforms, Gmail and Google calendar and a working knowledge of Mac
