About the role
The position of Principal Advisor carries responsibility for providing timely and accurate advice on product value, future business and industry context, and global industry trends to the Iron Ore resource development, strategic production planning, business development, business evaluation and strategic partnership teams based in Singapore and Perth. The role takes carriage of value-in-use analysis for strategic product pricing and placement and provides voice-of-the-market and voice-of-the customer inputs to Perth-based teams.
The role is responsible for providing technical analysis and strategic advice on product value, competitor value assessment and future market positioning. It will also engage with key customers in the market to understand iron and steel trends and value parameters.

, you'll:
Product Value Analysis
: Key role in driving product assessments for our iron ore products through value-in-use analysis, including practical knowledge of iron ore product use, to influence Rio Tinto's iron ore operating assest as well as market development studies to achieve maximum value.

Support to RTIO
: Working closely with Iron Ore product group teams to provide commercial context and insights of Rio Tinto iron ore products, competitor products, competitor operational and pricing strategies from both a technical and operations perspective to ensure future product pricing and value assumptions are fit for purpose and reflect the most relevant future market and customer requirements. The role will leverage the capability of the Pricing team, Market Analysis team to inform the advice ultimately provided to Iron Ore product group. The role will also provide inputs into the Iron Ore sales & marketing planning process as required.

Collaborate across Commercial:
Work closely with the Iron Ore Sales and Marketing teams in Singapore and Perth to collaborate on improvements in VIU modeling and methodologies, provide inputs to commercial strategy and commercial projects.

Technical Marketing:
Work with Technical Marketing teams in regional offices to communicate market development projects and collaborate to understand customer raw material trends and value drivers.

Technical engagement:
Participate in technical engagement particularly with ASEAN and JKT customers, support product research programs, support customers with technical knowledge to make the best use of our iron ore products and contribute to new customer development.

Coordinate analysis
of external demand factors (technical, regulatory, others) which may influence future demand and value.

The role will also be remotely located from the reporting manager, and therefore will have a leadership responsibility including defining priorities, setting work programmes and being a self starter.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
We're looking for a curious, independent thinker with a passion for market dynamics and a sharp analytical mind.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in a technical discipline including metallurgical/chemical/process/mining engineering, geology/metallurgy/chemistry/other geoscience or mathematics/physics.
Minimum 10 - 15 years industry experience
Proactive working relationship with peers in iron and steel industry
Comprehensive understanding of resources industry market and pricing information
Experience in product value assessment in the iron ore industry
Experience with customer engagements and working directly with steel mills on the use of iron ore products
Bonus points if you have:
Post-graduate in a field related to iron and steel making or iron ore processing/mining is highly desirable.
MBA, Masters in Commerce or Masters in Minerals Economics is highly desirable
