We are looking for a Principal Analyst \xe2\x80\x93 Asia Pacific Solar Research to join Wood Mackenzie\xe2\x80\x99s Power & Renewables team. The Power & Renewables research team is a highly respected group of analysts producing market-leading research on the entire power & renewables value chain. Singapore is the preferred location and Sydney, Shanghai, and Tokyo are also options for the right candidate. The successful candidate will lead a team of regional analysts responsible for Asia Pacific solar markets including China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, India, and Australia. He or she will be part of our global solar team and a key leader and expert involved with Wood Mackenzie\xe2\x80\x99s global energy transition research.

The Principal Analyst will lead the development and delivery of high-quality research and thought leadership for solar photovoltaic markets, technology, and supply chain in the Asia Pacific region. This includes engaging with clients, identifying emerging themes that will impact the industry and ensuring Wood Mackenzie is delivering cutting-edge research, data, and forecasts.

The day to day of the role involves overseeing our solar market outlook in Asia, managing and building the regional research team, conducting in-depth research on the latest market trends, and developing and implementing a business growth strategy. The Principal Analyst will guide and develop junior analysts on the storage team and coordinate cross-technology research with other analysts on the conventional power, wind, battery storage and other teams.

The Principal Analyst is expected to conduct original research with the guidance of the Global Head of Solar Research and deliver analysis through written reports, public speaking, addressing customer inquiries, custom research engagements and occasionally consulting projects. Through research activities, client interactions and industry events you will have opportunity to build and maintain relationships with a range of clients and other experts in the power & renewables industry and impact key decision makers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Industry thought leader \xe2\x80\x93 engage clients and key industry players through high-impact research, internal/external presentations and events, media, and briefings.
  • Research manager \xe2\x80\x93 manage and lead the Asia Pacific solar team to deliver key forecasts, reports and data improvements on markets, supply chain, and technology, systems and operations.
  • Business growth champion \xe2\x80\x93 refine and improve strategy to build team expertise, expand research coverage, engage clients, and accelerate business growth in Asia Pacific
About you and how you can excel in this role

You are excited about the energy transition and exploring challenging and complex topics related to Asia\xe2\x80\x99s booming solar market ranging from technology advances to geopolitics. You have strong experience in the solar industry and a firm grasp of how it fits into the wider energy transition. You are analytical and have excellent quantitative skills either through a business, economics, engineering, science, or similar background.

Proven research experience is highly valued, such as working as a market analyst or consultant for leading energy or power companies. We are open to candidates with a variety of backgrounds including from renewables developers, manufacturers and those transitioning from roles in related sectors.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • A good track record of 5-10 years industry experience in the power or renewables industry, with at least three focused on solar energy. The ideal candidate will have a mix of experience in research, marketing, strategy or consulting focused roles
  • Deep understanding of regional solar industry trends, challenges, and opportunities and a good network of solar industry contacts including with developers and supply chain companies
  • Knowledge of battery storage technology and industry is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A strong writer and public speaker
  • Research and people management experience
  • Solid analytical and numerical skills
  • Entrepreneurial mind set
  • Effective at working across a matrixed organization
