The Principal Consultant will help grow the Upstream and Low Carbon Consulting practice within the APAC region. With a key focus on execution of projects as well as starting to develop and manage some relationships with key clients, the role requires a combination of solid knowledge of the upstream oil & gas space as well as energy transition topics such as CCUS, carbon emissions management & the wider energy industry dynamics. The role requires strong business project management and project execution capabilities, project direction on consulting mandates, leadership management as well as wider development of the growing the consulting team within the region. The role is high-profile both internally and externally and influential in Wood Mackenzie achieving its goals globally. Main Responsibilities Business Development

  • Retain and increase upstream and low carbon consulting revenues as well as improving the profitability of Wood Mackenzie consulting projects and multi-client studies
  • Develop networks and relationships that lead to a deep understanding of clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs and therefore future consulting requirements
  • Pro-actively maintain a high-level of client interaction across the region, with a specific focus on key clients, to source and develop strong relationships and a solid, repeatable, profitable consulting business
  • Support the targeting, prioritization and engagement of clients in APAC to develop a platform for Wood Mackenzie consulting activities
  • Scope and write pitches
  • Execute and Project manage deliverables.
People and Thought Leadership
  • Generate innovative ideas and approaches to industry issues for bespoke consulting projects, as well as for the wider research and consulting business. Particularly within the upstream and low carbon consulting team, helping and leading clients innovate new insights and approaches to addressing challenges within the energy transition.
  • Build and maintaining the appropriate internal network (across consulting, research and sales) to deliver the best possible outcome for both Wood Mackenzie and its clients
  • Motivate and develop staff, improving our understanding of the challenges faced by our key clients
  • Work closely with the global upstream practice group as well as other groups to promote best practice in our existing offerings and take a key role in the future development of the consulting offering
Team Player
  • Work closely with research teams and ensure consistent and good working relationships exist, providing a mentoring role for research and sales & account management colleagues who have a different reporting line
  • Work closely with the other regional teams to ensure alignment of the consulting practice regarding existing and planned commitments
  • Work with the Resourcing Manager to help manage the project pipeline and proper resource management.
  • Help build the development of industry knowledge, consulting skills and processes across the team
Project Direction
  • Actively participate in client mandates working with team and clients to ensure high quality and insightful results for both research and consulting
  • Ensure that the operational processes for the life cycle of consulting assignments are completed
  • Ensure commitments to the client can be met and that pitching activity is aligned with business strategy
  • Manage client expectations

Qualifications
The Principal Consultant of upstream and low carbon consulting is highly commercial combining analytical rigor, acute problem solving and skilled at execution of deliverables. The individual will excel at nurturing client relationships and ensuring quality solutions that endeavour to exceed our client\'s expectations. Candidates who can demonstrate the following skills and abilities will excel in this role:
  • A focus on the oil and gas industries and a thorough understanding of the trends and drivers that are shaping the industries, particularly its commercial aspects
  • Passion for the energy sector and to help drive change within the energy transition
  • Ability to communicate and build rapport both internally across the organisation and externally with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate a structured issues-driven problem-solving approach within a consulting context, to lead a team of consultants to deliver a project and to manage senior stakeholders
  • A service mind-set and the ability to build relationships with senior decision makers.
  • A team approach and utilising diverse talents within a multi-sectorial group. Motivating a team through example is ideal \xe2\x80\x93 in terms of intellectual drive and curiosity, service excellence and a focus on work-life balance.
  • Experience within consulting with a strong knowledge of consulting processes is important and a proven track record of growing business within the energy/consulting space is preferable.
  • Direct experience within key new energy transition trends including CCUS, emissions measurement & mitigation, carbon trading and hydrogen would be considered an asset
