Our client is a renowned commodity trading MNC. It is now looking to an experienced professional as the Principal - Portfolio Management & Strategy.For this role, you will ensure the execution of the Marketing BU Structured Origination strategy, optimal current and future state operating model and to optimise the Marketing portfolio of transactions to completion, to deliver long term value across all commodities within risk tolerances and governance frameworks.Key TasksThe role is accountable for:
Implementing Marketings strategy for Sourcing and Origination (S&O) in line with the firms Risk Weighted Portfolio and Material Solutions Provider ambitions.
Implementing and optimising post deal management performance of the S&O Portfolio and returns through performance monitoring, syndication, structured trade finance, restructuring and price risk management tools available to Marketing.
Ensuring the risk weighting of the portfolio is within tolerance levels and representative of our preferred commodity exposures basis multiple time horizons to ensure the Portfolio can successfully navigate key market transitions and sustained structural changes.
Ensuring a robust reporting framework in place to be able to articulate portfolio performance to Management and key stakeholders.
Ensure the portfolio and strategy is representative of our growth objectives across our equity and future facing commodities
Leadership
Together with Head of Structured Origination, manage the Structured Origination strategy as well as the delivery of Marketings Sourcing & Origination Strategy by working closely with and capturing the requirements of Commodity Marketing Team Sourcing & Origination Strategies.
Manage the portfolios Balance Sheet efficiency, including but not limited to working with Treasury to optimise financing structures and Credit Risk to optimise credit insurance coverage for the portfolio.
Work within the Structured Origination Operating Model which is based on the principles of the firms Operating Model and which will enable the delivery of the growing Structured Origination pipeline of Transactions
Optimise and risk manage the Structured Origination portfolio of executed transactions - actively looking for ways to enhance the value or mitigate the risk of the portfolio.
Effectively manage, influence and support a multi-disciplinary team to ensure in-time development and delivery of Origination and Sourcing targets.
Initiate and build strong working relationships beyond the team, quickly assessing/responding to queries and concerns that arise from other areas
Quickly understand potential profits and associated risks to existing transactions, putting specific strategies in place to ensure exposures are optimised.
Act as custodian of the deal pipeline process, taking accountability for designing and embedding a fit for purpose, competitive process.
Work with Front Office teams and Group Disciplines (Business Development, Exploration, Technology & Innovation) and our Financing Partners to transform the deal pipeline management approach - in particular lead generation - from reactive to proactive.
Manage the deal pipeline at the portfolio level for the Marketing BU. Working closely with key stakeholders from within Marketing (including Sales and Trading teams, Treasury, Tax and Legal), other support functions and from the broader Group (including Business Development, International Relations, Exploration and Technology & Sustainability) to maximise returns from the portfolio through active management.
Target Delivery
Support the Head of Sourcing and Origination to reach Marketing Sourcing & Origination targets.
Be a key player within the Structured Origination Portfolio Management and Strategy team to develop the strategy, operating model and portfolio which will reach Structured Origination and Marketing portfolio targets from 2023 onwards.
Work with an external network in the commodity and financial institution space that allows for sustainable management of existing and future Sourcing and Origination transactions
Organisation and Growth
Develop and strengthen new counterparty relationships (finance institutions, insurance, banks, investment funds, etc).
Develop and strengthen relationships within the firm to leverage/ monetise the Groups capability and to support the Structured Origination strategy.
Refine/ optimise the current state and design and develop the future state Structured Origination Operating Model to enable robust growth of Origination and Sourcing activities in the future.
Understanding of the evolving trading capability within Trading & Origination and the Commodity Marketing Teams and embed as a value lever in building the Sourcing and Origination Portfolio.
Embed new product capability (adjacent products, recycled ferrous scrap, new energy products) into the SO operating framework.
Stakeholder Management
Manage relationships with a broad range of internal stakeholders and external counterparties (suppliers, financers, insurers, etc), ensuring an excellent service level.
Manage internal stakeholders at an executive level to ensure alignment on portfolio strategy.
Clearly and concisely articulate the goals and rationale thereof for Structured Origination.
Risk and Governance
Support the delivery of the Origination and Sourcing strategy within Marketings defined risk and governance framework.
Development, Implementation and management of a robust Post Deal Management process that can meet the portfolio ambitions of the Marketing business.
Ensure the Post Deal Management process is both a risk management and portfolio optimisation platform.
Continuously improve the governance procedures that would ensure origination activities operate in a controlled risk environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree level, preferably in business and/or engineering disciplines. (Required).
Advanced university qualifications, preferably in business administration, commerce, or other relevant discipline (MBA, etc.) (Desirable) with around 10 to 15 years.
