Overall purpose of role The role holder will be responsible for growing, managing and maintaining a book of UHNW Private Banking clients resident in Asia. They will act as a trusted advisor to clients and provide access to the full range of investment solutions, banking services, credit/lending solutions, Structured Solutions, Wealth Structuring Services and Philanthropic services available from Barclays Private Bank. They will undertake business within Barclays risk and control policies. The role holder will in addition, assist the Head of Singapore, Private Bank with developing, managing and growing the Asia market for Private Bank. The role holder may be required to deputise or act on a delegated authority basis for the Head of Singapore Private Bank.
Key Accountabilities

  • The role holder will engage with UHNW and Family Office clients who are typically multi-banked with multi-jurisdictional and often complex banking and investment requirements and succesfully attract them to execute or place their business with Barclays Private Bank and the wider Barclays Group.
  • The role holder will identify, develop and secure new relationships through personal and client referrals, Barclays group internal networks and corporate and investment banking sources
  • The role holder is expected to onboard new clients of the appropriate calibre and size to deliver business growth for the Private Bank and provide clients with the solutions and services that meet their needs
  • The role holder in their day-to-day activity, using their breadth of experience will facilitate delivery of the right client solutions for sophisticated multi-jurisdiction, multi banked clients with complex banking and investment requirements
  • The role holder will translate client opportunities into executable strategies, utilizing/exploiting limited resources efficiently and effectively. This client facing role will be expected to contribute to the PB P & L
  • The role holder will be expected to act as an external and internal ambassador for Barclays. As such they will be naturally recognised as representing Barclays’ values and culture by way of their client centric approach, their ease in meeeting clients on a regular basis, their capacity to identify and connect with relevant prospects.
  • The role holder will be expected to contribute to the development of the Asia strategy for the Private Bank Singapore team and may be assigned responsibility for client level planning, business strategy and execution for a geographic or commercial segments within the overal Asia startegy.
  • The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that all activity they undertake remains within Barclays risk appetite and commercial agenda
  • The role holder will be expected to be a contributor to the Barclays Citizenship and Diversity & Inclusion agendas

Stakeholder Management and Leadership The key stakeholders and relationships a Private Banker will interact with are external clients, the offices or authorised third parties of our clients, internal product and service experts (Investment, Banking, Credit, Wealth Advisory, SSG), internal advisory teams (Compliance, Financial Crime, Business Delivery & Control and Chief Controls Office), as well as Senior Private Bank Management. A Private Banker is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills in order to listen and adapt communication to the needs of the variety of stakeholders the role encounters. There are no specified leadership responsibilities in the Private Banker role.
Governance and Control
  • The role holder will ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards
  • The role holder will undertake their duties in a manner which observes and promotes full compliance with the Training & Competence Scheme, the Cross Border Policy and Sales Process requirements
  • The role holder will maintain the technical knowledge required to effectively undertake their role as a Private Banker
Investment Advice and Financial Solutions
  • The role holder will provide clients and prospective clients with access to and solutions drawn from the Private Bank product set which shall include:
    • Investment Management: This shall include modelled and bespoke discretionary portfolios together with advised transactions into the full range of authorised investment products including publicly listed securities, mutual funds, structured products, hedge funds, private equity, commodities, real estate, FX products and private assets.
    • Balance Sheet: Banking and Credit to support a wide range of clients deposit and borrowing needs including Securities Backed Lending and Mortgage Finance for UK residential & commercial property.
    • Wealth Advisory: Faciltating access to Private Bank Wealth Advisors where clients have need of wealth planning and structuring services including trust and estate planning.
    • Corporate & Investment Banking: Enable clients to access products and services traditionally available only to institutional clients, through the Strategic Sales Group (SSG)
  • The role holder will, subject to cross border constraints, maximise the use of all internal Private Bank expertise including Investment Advisors, Credit Specialists, Wealth Advisors and Structured Solutions Specialists.
Asia Business Development With respect to building, managing and growing the Asia market the role holder will where so required assist the Head of Asia with
  • Development and delivery of the overall Asia business plan and strategy for Private Bank.
  • Market coordination to ensure that the Asia business is prospecting & managing the right clients, maximizing deal potential and undertaking business within Barclays risk and commercial appetite.
  • Implementing the Asia marketing & commercial strategy so that UHNW Asian clients are attracted to Barclays.
  • Managing the Asia business channel between Private Bank locations to maximise use of the full proposition

Person Specification
  • The role holder will be able to demonstrate directly relevant experience by way of a multi year track record of employment with a multinational private banking group in a client facing role.
  • The role holder will have a breadth of experience in dealing with the private banking needs of Ultra High Net Worth Families. Specific to this role the role holder must have direct experience of managing transactions which have cross border regulatory considerations.
  • The role holder will be able to demonstrate significant experience in the Financial Services industry, particularly in the areas of regulated investment products and services to ultra high net worth Residents and Non Residents, international family offices and private asset managers. Experience related to Investment banking and/or Private Equity for this client segment is a pre-requisite.
  • The role holder will be able to demonstrate experience in implementing estate planning for Ultra High Net Worth Individauls

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
  • The role holder will have very strong relationship skills with experience of managing and handling the sophisticated needs of individuals and families
  • The role holder will have experience of building a substantial client base using internal and external networks, be effective in gaining an in-depth understanding of client’s needs and advising on a diverse range of wealth management solutions with high penetration ratios per client.
  • The role holder will have experience of operating in a complex investment environment and will satisfy the criteria for an approved person (where applicable) both initially and on an ongoing basis.
  • The role holder will have broad experience of the Financial Services industry and will be skilled in differentiating advice according to the complexity of the client’s requirements.
  • The role holder will have detailed regulatory knowledge, in particular of local regulatory requirements, and an overall understanding of the business impact of the regulatory environment.
  • The role holder will have excellent market exposure and multi-disciplined private banking expertise.
  • The role holder will be required to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications and be able to demonstrate that they will meet the minimum qualifications to meet local regulatory requirements and Barclays internal company benchmarks
