Company Profile
The Interchange is a multidisciplinary social enterprise that combines research, design, and fabrication to develop accessible and replicable circular economy solutions for communities.
We work at the intersection of sustainability, creativity, and social impact, transforming overlooked and discarded materials such as rice bags, PVC banners, and post-consumer plastic waste into functional, meaningful products. Beyond product development, we run hands-on workshops, community programmes, and creative outreach efforts to spark conversation, build skills, and empower individuals to take action through circular design.
Our work is rooted in collaboration, whether it's engaging seniors through micro-jobs, co-developing upcycling initiatives with public agencies, or partnering with like-minded organisations to drive material reuse. We're a small but agile team that believes in learning by doing and creating systems that turn waste into possibility.
You'll support our team in sewing and crafting upcycled products, prepare materials, and assist in community workshops with a wide range of participants. This is a hands-on, on-the-ground role that plays a key part in our day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
Operate sewing machines and prep materials for production
Assist in facilitating upcycling workshops
Pack, transport, and help set up for off-site workshops and pop-ups
Maintain workspaces and tools (e.g., clean machines, organise craft supplies)
Assist in documenting processes for internal records or social media
You Must Have
Strong interest in sustainability, upcycling, and social impact work
Familiarity with sewing (machine and hand stitching) and crafting
Willingness to work with unconventional materials (e.g., post-consumer waste such as rice bags, plastic bottles, PVC banners, food packaging)
Good time management, attention to detail, and reliability
A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work with a small, lean team
Comfort interacting with a wide range of workshop participants
Availability for occasional weekend work, depending on pop-ups and workshops
