Job Description

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.
We are seeking a motivated Project Officer to accelerate the progress of a reseach programme focused on biomass conversion. This role will bridge fundamental research and industrial application, ensuring smooth project delivery and impactful outcomes. By driving innovation and providing essential operational, technical, and research support, the position directly advances NTU's mission of sustainability, carbon neutrality, and green industry development, integrating research excellence with practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply expertise in materials science and electrochemical systems to support biomass conversion research and technology development.
Contribute to sensor/device prototyping, and simulation work as relevant to programme needs.
Assist in preparing high-quality research outputs, including publications, patents, and technical reports.
?Provide operational and research support for the research centre, including manage laboratory operations, research data (DMP), and cluster systems, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Oversee budget tracking, procurement, and funding management in coordination with finance and administrative offices.
Prepare comprehensive reports for funding agencies and university administration. Support the creation of outreach materials, including videos and proposals. Engage with industrial and academic partners to translate research into practical applications.
Support the design, commissioning, and operation of the Automated Flow Chemistry Laboratory, including layout design, staffing, and procurement.
Liaise with suppliers and external partners for equipment and resource procurement.

Coordinate meetings, documentation, and progress reporting across interdisciplinary teams.
Support student assistants and researchers, fostering a collaborative research environment.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related disciplines. Prefer to have Master's degree or PhD (or nearing completion).
Research experience in electrochemical sensors, biomass conversion, energy storage, or sustainable materials.
Technical expertise in simulation/modelling and programming.
Proven ability to manage laboratory operations, including safety compliance, procurement, and equipment maintenance.
Demonstrated skills in scientific writing, including preparation of reports, proposals, and documentation for funding agencies.
Effective project coordination and team communication skills in an interdisciplinary research environment.
Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, or conference presentations.
Experience in industry collaborations, R&D internships, or technology translation.
Skills in design and media tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Blender, After Effects) for outreach and communication.
