The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.
Position Available: Project Officer
The Yong Research Group at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking a Project Officer (PO) on a short-term research appointment to contribute to our project focused on developing topology-enhanced physical models for biopolymer structure and interaction analysis. Our project seeks to answer fundamental questions such as "what is the shape of a biopolymer?", "why is a biopolymer shaped the way it is?", "how is structure related to function?", and provide new perspectives into the geometry and topology of a biopolymer.
Key Responsibilities:
The project officer will be responsible for data analysis (e.g., data pruning, machine learning) and numerical simulations (e.g., develop model to corroborate with experimental data). The theoretical simulation can provide deeper insights to the experiment results. The role involves research design, data analysis, model development, numerical simulations (Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics), and scientific writing. The candidate should possess a strong foundation in theoretical and computational physics, demonstrate independence and creativity in problem-solving, and share our group's aspiration to produce research of the highest international standards suitable for publication in leading scientific journals.
Job Requirements:
The project officer should have
B.Sc in STEM from a reputable university.
Prior experience in numerical simulations.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as C++/Python/Matlab.
As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate must be fluent in English.
