About the role
What you need to know:
The AIG catastrophe (CAT) risk modelling and exposure management operation is one of the largest in the industry with professionals worldwide across multiple geographies. Effective CAT exposure management and reporting is integral to the success of the business and our team of experienced catastrophe modelers and exposure managers play a critical role in supporting underwriting of catastrophe risk and in managing our global risk appetite. The individual in this key leadership role is responsible for supporting CAT modeling and exposure management needs of AIG’s Asia Pacific (APAC) business including Commercial Property, SME and Specialty lines. The role requires partnering with Underwriting and Actuarial stakeholders, as well as close engagement and partnership with other CAT Teams. The role is highly visible and this leader will have the opportunity to interact with and advise underwriting leadership, as well as influence AIG’s approach to CAT modelling and exposure management.

  • Manage APAC Commercial lines catastrophe modeling team, supporting underwriting decisions using data driven insights and guidance.
  • Lead CAT modeling and analytical support efforts to assist business leaders, corporate CAT, actuarial, and finance teams through timely, accurate and frequent exposure and modelled loss reporting.
  • Work with internal IT partners and external modeling service vendors to manage transactional modeling output and ensure its accuracy and consistency with portfolio modeling
  • Support business planning, budgeting, profit studies, portfolio optimization, reinsurance purchase, and other actuarial or driven exercises where catastrophe risk inputs are required.
  • Assist in the development of catastrophe capacity and appetite metrics, and the deployment of these across APAC Commercial lines.
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing rebuild of the company’s internal view of catastrophe risk and strategy, and actively support deployment and change management efforts.
  • Lead internal efforts to transform exposure data capture and CAT modelling processes.
  • Engage with internal partners as needed to respond to rating agency surveys, and support regulatory filing requirements.
  • Engage with brokers and external stakeholders to model different segments of the data for reinsurance purposes
  • Lead Catastrophe event response efforts for APAC Commercial lines.

What we are looking for:
  • Good understanding of insurance and reinsurance
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills including numerical modeling
  • Minimal seven years of direct experience in CAT risk and portfolio modelling using RMS/AIR
  • In-depth knowledge of CAT modeling methodologies, excellent understanding of RMS & AIR models and database structures
  • Excellent SQL skills and experience with additional programming languages highly preferred
  • Experience of cat budgeting / business planning, capacity allocation, and technical pricing techniques
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to effectively communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner to a wide range of audiences
  • Strong kills and ability to manage multiple projects and multiple deliverables
  • A good team player working well with multiple teams
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field preferred
