Guy Carpenter is seeking candidates for the following position: Regional Legal and Compliance Counsel, Asia Pacific The role of Regional Legal and Compliance Counsel, Asia Pacific will be based in Singapore. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance, Asia Pacific (based in Singapore), the Regional Legal and Compliance Counsel will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs (LCPA) department to support the Guy Carpenter business. You will have regional responsibility for various LCPA areas of focus, including managing errors and omissions, reviewing contracts and advising on regulations. You will also be responsible for ensuring that Guy Carpenter\xe2\x80\x99s regulatory obligations across Asia Pacific are met and for overseeing regulatory, compliance, risk and governance activities in Asia Pacific. We will count on you to:
  • Serve as the primary contact with Guy Carpenter\'s regulators
  • Identify and review regulations relevant to Guy Carpenter
  • Implement and monitor policies, procedures and controls
  • Provide prompt regulatory advice and support to the business
  • Review internal policies and explaining their requirements and applications to the business
  • Manage regulatory filings and notifications including licensing of relevant Guy Carpenter entities
  • Manage and oversee regulatory examinations and inspections
  • Conduct investigations into legal, compliance and / or ethics issues
  • Carry out duties as data privacy officer
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support and promote a culture of integrity and compliance
  • Promote awareness and responsibility through regular communications and trainings
  • Facilitate Guy Carpenter\'s risk management process, conduct risk assessments and maintain risk registers, and manage risk committees as relevant
  • Identify potential risk and compliance issues associated with new products, services and jurisdictions and implement appropriate measures to address them
  • Conduct periodic monitoring and compliance assessments to confirm compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and standards
  • Work with Guy Carpenter\'s business and functional units to determine corrective actions for relevant issues
  • Prepare risk and compliance reports for business leaders and senior members of the LCPA function
  • Support M&A and other corporate activities
  • Provide analysis and counsel on a range of legal issues, including employment, real estate, intellectual property and (re)insurance
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts
  • Assist with the development of templates
  • Engage and supervise outside counsel
  • Manage effective Errors & Omissions (\xe2\x80\x9cE&Os\xe2\x80\x9d) prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Triage, investigate, mitigate, and close E&Os claims as well as review E&Os claims history, identify trends, and develop awareness education to avoid repeatable incidents
  • Actively participate in appropriate executive, leadership, and / or operating committees
  • Engage with senior Guy Carpenter business leaders across Asia Pacific where appropriate
What you should have:
  • Recognized legal qualification from, and admitted to practice in, a common law jurisdiction
  • Minimum 6 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal & compliance role
  • Experience in compliance and regulatory advisory work in (re)insurance or financial services sectors
  • Prior experience handling contract reviews and management
  • Strong Mandarin language capabilities (including drafting and reviewing contracts) to handle compliance and regulatory work in China
