Job Description




The Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a highly international and multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The candidate will work in a new Battery Laboratory on a portfolio of research & development projects (not academic-focused) exploring the application of 2D materials on energy storage devices:

  • Review and understand scientific and technical literature
  • Execute supervised R&D projects in the area of electrochemical energy storage systems
  • Explore new cathode, electrolyte, separator, and anode materials and/or modifications for improved cell performance with supervision
  • Prepare electrode slurries with different formulations
  • Fabricate battery components and assemble coin and pouch cells for testing
  • Design, establish, and write standard operating procedures, risk assessments, and effective experimental plans for assigned equipment and processes
  • Calibrate/maintain the assigned equipment
  • Perform laboratory analyses, evaluate the results, and clearly present reports to the team and suggest new pathways
  • Work in glovebox and dry room battery fabrication line
  • Manage general laboratory inventory (e.g., consumable inventory)
  • Work collaboratively with partnering collaborators and research groups
  • Work in a laboratory environment within a team of multidisciplinary and multicultural researchers
  • Participate in routine housekeeping
Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold an internationally recognised diploma (polytechnic), bachelor or master degree in chemistry, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, material science/engineering or related field
  • Team-player, self-motivation, proactivity, intellectual curiosity, and desire to learn
  • Able to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis
  • Technical depth, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills
  • Experience with design and build battery cells from coin cell to pouch cell configurations
  • Experience with electrochemical cell characterizations, e.g., cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods
  • Hands-on experience in evaluation of the battery components, battery performance, and analytical techniques, e.g., SEM, XRD, TEM, FTIR, NMR, and XPS
  • Experience working in dry room battery fabrication line
  • Experience with pouch cell abusing test preferred but not required
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment or in R&D projects with industrial partners
