Job Description

This RA position is part of a project to build a learning tool to enhance the teaching of how computer networks function. The objective is to combine Augmented Reality (AR) technology with a novel approach to teaching Internet Protocol (IP) networking using construction bricks, guided through the use of a smartphone application.

The RA will be involved in the design process of a teaching tool, including translating desired learning outcomes into suitable activities using the available technology, as well as the interface and other design aspects of the supporting smartphone application. Two senior lecturers are also involved in the project and will be lending their expertise to the design process as well.

Candidates will need to be competent in Android application development or AR application development and possess an ability and interest in learning the additional skills needed to produce a proof-of-concept application that includes all aspects of the project\'s deliverables. Candidates will also be expected to contribute literature review and technical writing for any potential academic publications that will result from this work. As this is early proof-of-concept work, documentation of the effort is expected in order for the work to be further built upon in the future.

Essential skills

Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following:

• Android application development
• AR/VR/MR frameworks (such as Google ARCore or similar)
• OSI 7 layer model or TCP/IP model of networking
• Collaborative development using GitHub, GitLab or similar SCM
• Figma or similar interface prototyping tools

Desirable skills & credentials

In addition to the essential skills, the following would be preferred from stand-out candidates:

• Three or more of the listed essential skills
• A portfolio of Open Source software development
