The Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) of National University of Singapore (NUS) has a new vacancy in the area of environmental impact assessment of alternative marine fuel spills into the marine environment.

The Project \xe2\x80\x9cMitigation Technology and Environmental Impact from Ammonia Bunkering Release\xe2\x80\x9d has been funded for 27 months by Singapore Maritime Institute to a consortium of R&D Institutions in Singapore. The successful candidate will be working with a multidisciplinary team of atmosphere and marine biology scientists, and particularly be responsible for development of quantitative methods of accidental ammonia spills and fate in the marine environment.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team in conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) research on ammonia bunkering. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of researchers and industry experts to conduct primary and secondary research on the environmental impacts of ammonia bunkering, and help develop mitigation strategies for potential negative impacts.

The job scope includes:

• Conducting literature review on the environmental impacts of ammonia in coastal marine environments, including but not limited to: lethal concentration of ammonia in various marine organisms of local relevance; hazardous concentration of ammonia for local industrial operations (e.g. desalination).
• Collecting and analysing literature data related to marine environments response under enhanced ammonia.
• Conducting an incubation experiment of marine water under various ammonia enrichment scenarios. Measure the concentration of nutrients at different time of the incubation experiment.
• Manage the purchasing and laboratory safety for the logistics related to the project.
• Writing reports and summarizing research findings in a clear and concise manner.
• Presenting research findings to team members and industry experts.

• Bachelor\'s degree in environmental science, engineering, earth science, oceanography, chemistry or a related field.
• Strong critical thinking skills and is able to meticulously tabulate the literature and distil the key information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and research databases.

• Laboratory analytical chemistry skills. You will need to analyse the concentration of nutrients in seawater. Candidates without relevant analytical skills will be trained.
• Understanding of marine nutrient cycling is advantageous.
• Scientific illustration skill is advantageous, including using Origin, R, Adobe Illustrator, ArcGIS, Ocean Data View etc.
