Job Description


The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 15-month contract at the Physical Education and Sports Science Academic Group. Project Title: Blood flow restriction to maximise adaptations with high intensity interval training in racquet sport athletes [RS 2/22 SB] Project Introduction: This project offers the opportunity of joining a research team undertaking an exciting sports science experimental project evaluating the influence of blood flow restriction in combination with high intensity interval training (HIIT) on physiological and performance adaptations relevant for racquet sport athletes. The project is exercise physiology focused and primarily laboratory-based work in adults. The project will employ a variety of forms of physiological assessment techniques and performance measures. Requirements

  • Minimum of a BSc in Sports Science or a closely related field.
  • Experience in sports science project data collection – preference for individuals who have conducted research work previously.
  • Experience in sports science project management including but not limited to: ethical applications, data collection, data management and cleaning, data processing and analysis, statistics for human research, report writing, and manuscript preparation.
  • Experience in the use of various data collection techniques including: (i) measures of gas exchange; (ii) fingertip blood sampling; (iii) near infrared spectroscopy; (iv) surface electromyography; (v) heart rate; (vi) perceived exertion; and (vii) field measures of performance.
  • A qualification in venous phlebotomy would be useful.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with individuals from a range of backgrounds.
  • Self-driven.
Responsibilities All aspects of project data collection and management including but not limited to:
  • Ethical applications
  • Liaising with participants
  • Data collection, maintaining project records, cleaning and processing data
  • Statistical analyses
  • Report writing and manuscript preparation
  • Developing presentations for conferences.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with other administrative and duties as assigned.
