Prof. Chester Drum, Department of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore. The project is seeking a highly motivated and experienced candidate to study the pathogenesis of heart failure and develop potential novel therapeutics to cure heart disease. The project aims to decipher the mechanisms of action of novel cardioprotective compounds and targeting cardioprotective biomarkers. Our laboratory uses interdisciplinary approaches in biochemistry, biophysics, cell and molecular biology together with materials engineering to develop new technologies for basic science and biomedical applications. Our goal is to provide new insights into the molecular pathogenesis of heart failure, but also advance the development of novel mechanism-based approaches for heart failure prevention and therapy.Responsibilities

  • Conducts experiments independently as well as coordinate and collaborate with other people as a team. Results will be collected and analysed by the person and then report to the Principal Investigator.
  • Experience in handling small experimental animals such as mice and rats are mandatory.
  • Assists with writing manuscripts describing research results for submission to scientific journals. This includes generating graphs and tables for internal review, for grants and publications. Attend and present preliminary data at lab meetings regularly. Assists to maintain and organize the lab.
  • Participates in research meetings and discussions to exchange ideas and provide input.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and collaborators through written reports, emails and mentoring graduate students.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in biology, cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or a closely related science is required.
  • Extensive experiences in the research of cardiovascular biology, inflammation and cell metabolism are preferred. Strong expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques, genomics, gene editing techniques, experience with cloning and protein expression is mandatory.
  • Experience with cell culture and cell-based assays is required. Experience in in vitro cardiac myocytes and nonmyocytes primary cell culture studies is required.
  • A minimum of two to three years of experience working with rodent models of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Experience with mouse dissection and immunofluorescence staining in tissue.
