TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies.

A new project, "Singapore's Pathway to Carbon Neutrality: Analysis of New Technologies", has been launched. The aim of this project is to analyse options for alternative energy supply for Singapore such as import of electricity from neighbouring countries, long-distance high-voltage direct-current connections, alternative fuels such as hydrogen or synthetic fuels.

Objective of the Position:

We are looking for a Research Fellow to engage in model development and coupling for the project together with other researchers. This is a full-time 2-year contract with extension possibility based on project requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Development of a model of Singapore's energy demand
  • Analysis of worldwide potentials of renewable energies using existing tools
  • Analysis of the possible role of global green hydrogen or synfuels for Singapore
  • Development of a global transport model for hydrogen and synthetic fuels
  • Engagement in development of other models in the project
  • Coupling of the models developed in the project
  • Publication of methods and results in international scientific journals
  • Participation in grant calls and other funding opportunities
Job Requirements:
  • PhD in Power or Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 1 year of experience
  • Proven track record in energy and power system modelling
  • Knowledge of energy and power systems, energy markets, energy conversion technology
  • Programming knowledge (preferably Python and MATLAB)
  • Knowledge of the tools Urbs and pyGRETA is a plus
  • Ability to interact with other researchers and define a working structure
  • Good English writing and communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills for working in an international research team with people of different backgrounds
