The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) invite applications for a Research Fellow for 2 years, with a possible further 1 year extension, to conduct research into the impacts of environmental change and restoration initiatives on invertebrates in South East Asia as part of the Tropical Ecology & Entomology Lab at ASE. The position is supported by a funded MOE Tier II grant 'Unraveling the impacts of environmental change and restoration initiatives on biodiversity and species interactions in Southeast Asian ecosystems'.
The Research Fellow will be responsible for (i) organizing and conducting field on invertebrate biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in forests and urban areas in Singapore and Malaysia, (ii) curating existing datasets and developing models to predict species responses to environmental change, and (iii) seeing this work through to publication in major research journals. They will work with a Project Officer, Research Assistant and PhD students on this grant.
Job Responsibilities
Design and implement fieldwork ,laboratory analysis, and predictive modeling on invertebrate ecology in relation to environmental change
Manage large datasets, conduct analyses and interpret results
Work effectively with project PIs and local collaborators
Mentor junior colleagues and students, as needed
Writing and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals
Conduct outreach and education activities
Job Requirements
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
PhD degree in ecology or closely related field, preferably with a focus on invertebrate and ecosystem ecology
Fieldwork experience in forested and/or urban ecosystems, and preferably in the tropics and with invertebrates
Experience in managing biodiversity and environmental datasets and the use of statistical modelling and programming, including predictive modeling and conservation prioritization techniques
Prior experience in publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Ability to work independently to develop research and execute fieldwork in tropical environments, in conditions that are sometimes challenging
Collaborative, with demonstrable experience of working as part of a team or coordinating teams to produce high-quality and impactful research
Interest in invertebrates, ecosystem functioning, restoration, tropical forests
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrable ability to meet project, manuscript, and publication deadlines
Adaptable and flexible with a constructive and collegiate approach ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds
