Research Fellow (mechanobiology Institute)

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

Offer Description

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore, is a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences, including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, self-initiated applicant to join us as a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Tsuyoshi Hirashima\'s Collective Cell Dynamics in Mammalian Development and Reproduction lab. Dr. Hirashima\'s research group is interested in how collective cell behaviour emerges and how it relates to biological functions in development and reproduction. It focuses on cellular mechano-chemical coupling regulations in mammalian tissues, and explores the design principles of multicellular dynamical systems.

For this particular project, the group seeks to recruit a candidate interested in applying interdisciplinary approaches to study the interplay between sperm and somatic cells in male reproductive tracts. The origin and roles of sperm cell dynamics in reproductive tracts remain less than well-understood despite their physiological importance (2022, Semin Cell Dev Biol). To better understand them, the group has utilised intravital microscopy to study murine reproductive tracts, which has enabled them to observe cellular and molecular activities in living mouse tissues (2021, Biol Reprod; 2022, Reproduction). In this project, the group will combine live cell imaging, microfluidic devices, and mathematical modelling to further explore the fundamental mechanisms of how collective sperm dynamics emerge and link to reproductive functions and aging. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership qualities, a passion for conducting research, and a creative approach to problem-solving. The selected candidate should also be able to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in life sciences or related fields
  • Fundamental knowledge and skills in molecular biology, cell and tissue culture, and microscopy
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player
  • Experience in mouse handling, omics analysis, and/or bioinformatics analysis would be an advantage
The above criteria are not exhaustive, and are subject to prevailing recruitment policies.

Application

Interested candidates should apply by submitting:
  • a cover letter stating why they are interested in this position
  • a full CV with a list of publications
  • the names of two academic references (with address, phone number and email)
General inquiries or questions (particularly, scientific ones) about this position should be submitted via email to: with the subject label \xe2\x80\x9cPostdoc CCD-MBI-NUS-2023\xe2\x80\x9d.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
