Kent Ridge, Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

Offer Description

About the Centre for Quantum Technologies

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) is a research centre of excellence in Singapore. It brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.

CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore and also has staff at Nanyang Technological University. With some 180 researchers and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment.

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is offering a position for a postdoctoral fellow who will develop and realize experiments based on solid-state photonic resonators coupled to a micromechanical resonator and featuring a large Kerr nonlinearity. This research will tackle problems in many-body quantum optics and hybrid quantum optomechanics. More specifically, the goals are:

  • Exploring quantum-blockade based strategies for the generation and detection of quantum light without resorting to artificial atoms.
  • Implementing, understanding, and characterizing the polaritonic-enhancement and the Kerr-enhancement of optomechanical interactions, in the context of reaching non-classical states of motion and for quantum-scale Force sensor.
  • Realizing, understanding and characterizing novel designs of Kerr-based photonic, and optomechanical engines.
Job Requirements

The candidate should have a strong track-record in experimental optical spectroscopy of quantum optical, or optomechanical systems such as solid-state nanostructures and/or microcavities, atomic vapours and/or condensates. A solid experience in data analysis, and a solid knowledge base in quantum optics, the physics of light-matter interaction, and/or the physics of quantum fluids, is recommended.

The appointee will join the Majulab/CQT Assoc. Prof. Maxime Richard\'s lab. The position is funded by CQT\'s Exploratory Initiative. The candidate is expected to contribute to in every aspect of the group operation, e.g. by co-supervising PhD candidates and assisting with admin tasks. Salary will be competitive and will be commensurate with the candidates work experience.

Applicants should submit a detailed CV. Positions will initially be offered for 15 months, with possible extension for at least one more year. The start date is October 2023 and beyond. If shortlisted, applicants should also arrange for two letters of reference to be sent directly to the supervisor.
