The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. The Department of Surgery is a family of 14 sub-specialties that deliver excellent clinical care, with a focus on \'benchside-to-bedside\' translational research. Purpose of the Post

The SurgiCAL ProtEomics Laboratory (SCALPEL) is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Fellow with expertise in immuno-oncology to lead a major research project alongside the Principal Investigator. The project will utilize patient-derived tumour organoids (PDOs) generated by our laboratory to develop novel immunotherapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer and requires technical expertise in 3D organoid culture and immunological assays. SCALPEL is led by clinician scientists and therefore lies at the frontline of translational sciences, particularly in liver and pancreas cancer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently design and execute experiments, perform analyses and present outcomes related to the abovementioned project
  • Support the PI in lab operations and supervision of the research team as a senior lab member
  • Support the establishment of PDOs from clinical tissue specimens collaborate and engage with internal and external collaborators as technical champion for organoids.
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and methods, and evaluate their utility in improving existing disease model platforms in capturing key aspects of human tumor biology
  • Contribute to grant writing, scientific publications, validation reports, and laboratory protocols
  • Accurately document experiments and results in electronic notebooks and/or other required formats in compliance with project needs.
Qualifications
  • PhD in a Life Science related discipline.
  • Experience with immuno-oncology, molecular and cell biology, processing and handling of primary tissue samples and 3D culture techniques.
  • Experience with co-culture systems and/or bioinformatics will be considered favourably.
  • Skilled in molecular and cell biology techniques, and experience with cell-based assays
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work equally well on a multidisciplinary team or independently.
  • Highly organized; independent self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; adapt well to change and able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Innovative problem solver with creative thinking skills for overcoming difficult experimental challenges.
